Iris Unfurled

This is how the mystery iris ended up looking in my back terrace garden. It popped up next to the compost bin. I am sure it has enjoyed the extra water and nutrients that it inadvertently received due to its location.

I would describe it as a mauve-with-traces-of-peach iris.
I must admit that irises have never been my favorite flower. Too showy and much too much floozy attitude for me. And they have no staying power.
However, I have decided to let it stay by the compost bin. If it continues to show up every spring, I'll admire its lavender frills for the mega second it is at its peak.

Beautiful Iris. Mine are just budding and I pray a late frost doesn't do them in.

I kind of feel the same way about most irises, but I also admire tenacity. I'm glad you let "him" stay;)

I would love for you to include a link to my blog from yours. I put yours on mine without even asking. I don't have cyber etiquette down obviously:(

Oh, the poor flower... you gave it such a harsh criticism! I love irises... I think they're regal. This one has such beautiful coloring. Sometimes it's the things that don't last long that are most appreciated ;)

Wow, that's quite an iris! I know what you mean about the showier irises -- they're not my favorite either. But I do adore the more austere ones :)

Irises are one of my favorite blooms to use if a bride wants blue. I never thought of them as not having much stay but you are correct. They stretch and wither within a few days. I think that some varieties last longer than others. Your flower is quite nice!

I love irises! I have sentimental reasons, though. When I was a kid, my mom had two whole beds of irises right in front of our porch. There were so many different colors and they would bloom every yerr in Spring.

Irises have a floozy attitude? No wonder I love them!
