A Tea Party

Last Sunday I went to a birthday party. My good friend decided to celebrate her special day with a tea party at The Tea House on Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano. Los Rios is the historic district of this picturesque old mission town where Mission San Juan Capistrano (of the returning of the swallows fame) is located.

You can borrow a hat to wear or bring your own.

Everything inside and out was decorated for Christmas!

Tea time included tea (or coffee), heart-shaped scones with cream and jam,

tea sandwiches and fruit,

What a perfect place to celebrate a very special birthday girl!

Red velvet cake from Torrance Bakery!

AND! Look what is located next door! Could that be a knit shop? Oh yes!

Another reason to visit Los Rios in San Juan Capistrano!

I am sure I'll drop in to San Juan Capistrano again soon. There's a knit shop that carries Australian yarns to visit and an old California mission to tour...

What fun....if you want company next time you go, let me know. I've been to the Mission but not to tea or to the yarn shop. It's one of those things I've always wanted to do but just haven't yet.

Kak Willow, beautiful pictures..I'd love to come too. I am sure the scones tasted better than the ones I had at Cameron, it was so hard, you could kill a cat with it. Am at the East coast so visiting from a cyber cafe now, we are going up north to the Thailand border and back in 2 days. It's raining daily but no flood :D

It's been a joy knowing you and here's to a wonderful new year and happy 2009. much love

What a perfect spot for a birthday party! And with a knitting shop next door - it couldn't be better! Unless, there was a bookstore on the other side :)

What a fascinating tea place. I wonder if Capistrano is the same one that Pat Boone sang about "When the Swallows go back to Capistrano" My favourite singer when a teenager.

Aw, how fun! Miss her much-- and you! Maybe sometime this summer we can start here and visit local yarn shops all the way up to your place! Or vice versa. :o)

I've been there! It's very pleasant to sit on the patio during the Summer. But I didn't know it was next to a yarn shop - thank you for pointing that out!

What a wonderful idea - a tea party to celebrate a birthday! I might have to borrow that idea. The yarn shop looks cozy and magical! Glad you had a fun day. Enjoy.

It sounds like the perfect afternoon. I haven't been to San Juan Capistrano for years, but now I want to go again right away. I live having tea..and a knitting shop too.

I also enjoyed your pictures from your trip to your nephew's wedding. You're right about the church being decorated already for you during Christmas. We had little "Christmasy" petit fours at our reception too.

Hi, Willow! So glad to catch up with you at last and see you're enjoying a wonderful holiday...and so much fun happening--a post-holiday wedding, tea room visit, etc. I love teatime and tea rooms! We're just back from our Christmas trip and getting over the jet lag and settling in...ringing in 2009 will be quiet here-LOL! Wishing you & yours love & joy in the New Year! ((HUGS))

Purrs and hello's to your gentlemen cat guests! Cats make the best guests, don't you agree? Much better than dogs! We cats clean up after ourselves very tidily and truly appreciate our host's efforts on our behalf. I'm sure with all that soft, fluffy, temptingly warm yarn around your house, they have found some very comfortable places to snooze...

What a lovely special day out! I love the hanging teapot! It gives me an idea for the couple of broken ones I grew pansies in last year. :-)

Thanks also for sharing your nephew's wedding. It looked like such a special day and the cakes were beautiful.
