Treasure

Through the years and from several different sources, I have accumulated a substantial library of old knitting, crocheting and crafting books. During the Christmas visitation of my daughters and sons, I pulled out several boxes and bags, opened them up and offered any and all patterns and books to the girls. Because both girls (well, they're women, really) love vintage clothes and are quite knowledgeable about style, they love the pattern books and enjoy playing the game, "What year was THIS published?"

Wanna play? Try to guess!

A) What is this? Cinderella?

B) Four beauties!

C) Clues to the decade include the mustache, shaggy hair and that wristband!

D) No fashion era should ever include reptile accesories!

E) Black and White
I enjoy perusing the old books for ideas and comparisons in style, shaping, and fiber, so I find them interesting and inspirational. I just don't need 50 or 60 books! Is there anyone out there in blogland who would like some? I'll be happy to mail off a box of old patterns to the first person who asks for them.

The patterns are great, I love them too but I know a young lady who would be delighted by the snake jumper pattern (Em)! not sure she'd want me to knit it though, so I'll show her the picture first before I ask you to post it all the way over here.

B) 80's
C) 70's

LOL! Cute post!

A few of these books scream 70's and 8o's.

My husband still has a moutache and shaggy hair..lol..but no wristbands, thank goodness.

Those are great! They might be dated but that sweater in b&w is quite lovely.

What treasures, indeed.

Sounds like a grand time! I have a raft of vintage patterns of my own, thanks.

I'd say the first one was late 60s(Flower power, bulky quick-knit, chunky earrings.)

The second is Flash-Dance inspired. Very disco. When was that? the 80s?

The fluffy dude would be 70s. Look at those snug shorts!

The boa is timeless whimsey!

The glamor cardigan is 50s.

Love that blue fiber top photo. You have some serene spinning in your future I see.

Hey Willow!
I loved my Christmas Card. Thanks so much. Bonus: My little ones thought it was so cool that I got a card from so far away! :)

Those are great magazines...and yes they become treasures...
I have so enjoyed going down to my little shop and having them coax me along..
I've almost completed a scarf for my daughter's 30th. I love the yarn, and the stitch and they look so good together.
You have totally inspired me in this way. Let Monica have the magazines.

The first two are definetely eighties, the male with the moustache mid seventies, the reptile eighties again and the Black and white fifties? Loved them all!

Oh my word! What memories those retro patterns stir up. I did something similar ove rthe hols with our grown up kids. Baby clothes from long ago were brought down from the attic and my son and his wife took a large bagful with them when they went home after the Christmas break. They are expecting their first child (a little girl) in May. It stirred up lots of emotions, as I found the Christening gown and shawl that I knitted twenty eight or so years ago. I've just blogged the pics. Ros

I love looking at old publications of any type. It is funny that often we find that we haven't changed as much as we think. I like the Cinderella photo (the first sweater) and the B&W sweater is classy. Clever post !

I love the pictures! B is definitely the 80s, but I won't guess on the rest :)

How interesting. I was browsing my aunt's old fashion book, she was a seamstress. It was fashion from the 80's...my kids laughed at all those 'funny clothes' they commented. Hey, mummy wore those clothes then, big shoulder puffs were cool at that time..ala...Dynasty era haha. happy 2010 :)

Oh my goodness, that Columbia Minerva sweater was the first sweater I ever knitted. If it wasn't that exact one it was certainly just like it!! I would LOVE to have that pattern... I'm sure my mother threw it away (she was not a "saver") Your blog could inspire me to knit again!
