Friday Fave Five, Spring Equinox 2010

Hello! It's Friday and Fave Five time. On Saturday, we reached the Spring Equinox and crossed over in to Spring! What moments and events have blessed you this first week of Spring 2010?

Here's my list:

1. I must admit that I am rather excited today as I write this FFF. My Spring Break has arrived, and I have two full weeks of vacation!

2. Plane tickets were purchased this week. I'll be flying away to spend 6 days with The New Boy and his mama.

3. Game nights with friends are always fun. The Professor and I joined several other people to play Bananagrams and other games on Friday night. Do you know Bananagrams? Played with wooden alphabet tiles, the game is what I term 'expanded Speed Scrabble'.

4. For the past several years, I have had a different Spring Break schedule than The Professor and any of our children who might be taking college classes. This year is no different. The Grad Student is here for a few days at the end of his spring break and has enjoyed hanging out during the day with his dad who also has this week off. They kindly drove over to share lunch with me on Thursday. A few extra hours spent with 'my boys' is really special.

5. California's state flower is the California Poppy. Usually, poppies are bright orange. But some of these butter yellow poppies reseed in my back garden and bloom every spring.

When I see the poppies blooming, I know that Spring has truly arrived!

I hope you'll pop over to Susanne's blog Living To Tell The Story and join us for Friday Fave Five.

That's a beautiful poppy. Bananagrams is new to me and very interesting as I'm looking forward to play scrabble with my mother when I'm home in a few weeks. Happy Spring!

Two whole weeks... enjoy your vacation, Willow--and especially time with the New Boy. :o) Game night...we've not had one of those in a good long while--thanks for the tip. The poppy is so sweet--I didn't know about this soft buttery yellow color. I can't wait until things are blooming here... soon... LOL! Happy Days ((HUGS))

six days with the boy, and I bet you're not going to spoil him a bit, are you? Have a ball! It's Grandmas's perrogative.

I love the butter yellow poppy. I've never seen that. My mom grows the orange ones, we always called them Grandma's flowers because she brought the seeds to Canada from my Grandma's flower bed in Hungary.

Never heard of Bananagrams. Will have to check that out for my game loving family.

I enjoy time with my oldest too on her spring break. It's precious time for sure.

Mmmm... I LOVE poppies! Red, orange OR yellow! They are just HAPPY little flowers!

I have heard on Bananagrams but I have never played it. I know I would enjoy it because I LOVE Scrabble! I have only ever seen it in the store once though - and it wasn't on my LIST for that day! I suppose ToysRUs would have it though... I'll have to look into that!

How great that you get to go spend time with that not so little New Boy! Ya gotta grab it while you can! They grow SO quick!

I've never heard of "Bananagrams" but I think I might have played it with our son and his wife....just using regular Scrabble tiles and no board. It was fast and furious. I definitely am putting it on my wish list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Have a great vacation. Enjoy your family.

Oh I love poppies. My mum grows the Icelandic pastel poppies. But, for us they are a summer flower. We get crocus and daffodils in the spring.

We too are just starting our Spring Break, but we will get only one week and not 2. Not complaining mind you, we'll take what we can get. :-)

Games and friends are great favorites! Still not seeing many flowers here yet but eager for that sign of Spring to arrive.

Enjoy your trip.

What a pretty poppy. I didn't know they came in any other color but orange. I wonder if the yellow ones grow in the wild.

I'm so happy that you have two wonderful weeks to look forward to and that you're on your way...

Have a nice time!
