Golden Gate Bridge

First opened in May 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge spans the Golden Gate Strait which the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.

Its 4,200 foot suspension span is not the longest in the world.  There are currently eight bridges around the world that have longer suspension spans.  In my opionion, however, The Golden Gate Bridge still the most beautiful.

Hi. I just wrote yesterday about the Golden Gate when I was in the Bay Area with my dad. So imagine my surprise when I opened to your blog today of the very same! I took lots of pictures I didn't put in my blog...I got carried away with what a beautiful day it was!

Very impressive. A few years ago my child-hood friend from Norway visited me and we took a drive to San Francisco. In order for her to see the bridge in all its glory, we passed over several times during our stay so she could see it in SUN, rather than FOG...
Amazingly beautiful.

Maybe I should have said it was the blog before last when I wrote about the Golden Gate. http://hollacethemopsy.blogspot.com/2010/10/travels-with-granddad-part-2.html

PS I love the opening photo of the TV show 'Monk' which is taken from the north side of the bridge--I always wondered how to get there, and now, I know!

I'd love to see it one day in the steel! it looks very impressive. I always think of the scene out of Star Trek film IV The voyage Home, right at the end when they fly under the bridge. Jane x

My mother in law roller skated across it the day it was first opened. She was seven years old. Isn't that a cool claim to fame?

We lived in the San Jose area for a year and I never got tired of the SF Bay Bridge coming into view from either side as we rambled the area.

beautiful! I've never seen it, never having been to SF, but these shots from the car (I assume) really bring it home :)

Meg, Yes, I did take those photos from the car. Front passenger seat, not the driver's seat. You can walk and bike across the bridge too which we saw many people doing.
