Winding Down

Within a week, I will truly be on summer break.  That's something to be thankful for!  Since it is Friday, I am pausing in the space between end of classes and all papers corrected phases to reflect on a well lived week.  Here are my Friday Fave Fives:

1.  Last week of classes for my writing/composition students.  We had fun playing a form of Jeopardy which I created especially for the classes, and of course, there were snacks brought by ambitious, creative cooks.

2.  This week a friend finally flew to SoCal for a conference and tacked on a few days after to visit me.  We were friends in college and have maintained our friendship through the years.  It was great to show her my part of Southern California because even though she had grown up in LA, she had never seen the area where I live.  (no concrete jungles)

3.  Sunshine.  I love living where the sun shines most of the time, and I don't want to take it for granted.

4.  My garden.  It loves sunshine too.  The lettuces are producing profusely (think: great salads!), the zucchini is threatening to take over the tomato (Who will win the war?), and the basil is growing like a weed (think: pesto!).  Pictures will be coming.  I'm still in last-week-of-school recovery mode.

5.  More baby hats knitted.  But the creative juices are beginning to bubble and boil.  I have cast on for a new project and the yarn for a second project is sitting on a horizontal surface waiting.

My mouth is watering for salads and homegrown tomatoes now.

How special that you've maintained a friendship from college days. Sounds like you had a wonderful time together.

Remember, summer break is always shorter than you think it will be. Start your power lounging early!

We planted tomatoes. Let's hope we get enough sun for them to ripen this year. Looks like we have a good start on it.

And what is this creative project you have on the back burner? Nosy people want to know.

Oh I'm envious this is your last week! I have to teach until the 21st of June! Then again we don't start up until after Labor Day so....
I LOVE the sunshine too and we've had some glorious weather this week. YUMMY sounding garden you have! enjoy the last week of school and happy start to your summer break!

Can't wait to see some pictures of those projects.

Our very last week is next week. It's exam time then, and then we're done.

We have lots of sunshine here, too, and it's easy to take that for granted. Have a great week, Willow.

Oh hurray for your summer break coming soon. I wasn't a good girl and I forgot to put sunblock on down here in So.Cal. and now my poor face is fussing at me. Enjoy your salads with those yummy tomatoes.

I'm afraid I know who'll win that war: the zucchini! But hopefully you'll get some decent tomatoes, too. I hear it'll be a hot summer and they seem to like that. Hurrah for the last week of school!

I think Craig and I need to visit you because he hates LA but I keep telling him that where you live is beautiful!! Enjoy your garden! Our CSA starts this Tues. because of the warmer spring. Strawberries are already gone in some places and they are a June plant! Happy Summer break soon! :)
