Here are mine~
1. Time spent with Son#2. He moved last weekend and is staying with us until he leaves for Stanford University to become The Graduate Student. I treasure these hours and days with him.
2. Restful mornings, relaxing with a cup of coffee, watching the palm fronds blowing in a cool summer breeze.
3. I have spent a couple of afternoons this week while we've been kittysitting, typing geneological information into my computer. I have collected information about my ancestors for a long time and decided I wanted to organize it in a database. I've been reminded that I am part Irish, that two of my gr----grandfathers worked their way across the Atlantic Ocean onboardship, that one gr----grandmother was born 'on the way' to California in a wagon, and that one set of gr----grandparents sailed around Cape Horn to get to San Francisco!
4. The Professor and I spent a day in downtown Los Angeles, visiting friends who still live there and then taking the bus and train to Union Station
and walking around the city
ending up in the Fashion District and at Grand Central Market. These are places where we shopped regularly when we lived in Los Angeles and it was great to go to the Fashion District fabric store I used to frequent and find beautiful linen for a really great price!
5. Seeing this food cart in front of the BigBoxHomeImprovementStore in Long Beach on Sunday. Its name made us laugh.

Your description of summer breezes had me puzzled for a while -- but then I remembered that we do get cool breezes in the late afternoon! So nice to have the time with your son and visiting old stomping grounds.

I love that Palm Tree in the blue sky. I have been doing some research as I would like to make my patio look more Hawaii next summer.

# 2 sounds so heavenly to me! The hot dog place is cute. I discovered yesterday my favorite hot dog place ("Hot Dogg It!") closed down. :-( Great list.
ReplyDelete#4 kind of gave me a jolt because my best friend's husband calls her Professor. I had to shake my head for a second and do a double-take because we're from Orange County, and your post has shots from LA! For a second there, I thought I might have fallen into an episode of The Twilight Zone, LOL. :) Great post!

ReplyDeleteIt is always exciting for me to see pictures from CA since I've never been. My grandmother grew up near San Jose, but moved to the midwest when she married my grandpa in 1944. I too enjoyed reading how you've traced your geneology back so many generations.
ReplyDeleteMy hubby just found an application for his iPhone that imported all his genealogical records into the phone. He's thrilled! It even uses a GPS system to zoom in on locations of cemeteries, etc. I have a feeling that we'll be walking around Minnesota following that phone like a Geiger counter. It's quite a job keeping all those records straight, isn't it? Have fun with your son. Those times are always precious before they head off again.

You had a great week, time with your son, that's priceless, and then go shopping and find something you really want for a good price, that's nice too! I love that food cart, somehow I think I would want to buy something from it.

ReplyDelete"Genesreunited" is a good way of keeping a family tree online. You can also find people you might be related to.
Your ancestors were very determined people! If not hereditary, it must still be a personal boost to know your bloodline included such drive.
ReplyDeleteI have a fave to add...while test-driving a car this week, I drove through a town I hadn't visited before...it seemed to be the epitome of "Small Town, USA." The streets were freshly-paved, the trees were big and shady, the parks had happy-looking kids sliding down happy-looking slides...and the sky held the perfect mix of deep blue and puffy white clouds. Such a peaceful, easy feeling that town provided.

What a terrific week! How fascinating that you are linked to the pioneers. I keep a journal in 8th grade "as if" I was traveling on a wagon to California. Loved the history ever since then.

Thanks for the heads up about the book series containing the Rosemary for Remembrance book. I'll have to look for that. I haven't heard of it.
Hey, did you make a stop at the genealogical library in LA? It is pretty good. If you ever want to get really serious about genealogy, head to SLC. You can bunk at my place. For real!
