Friday Fave Five

Welcome back to Friday's Fave Five!
These five events made my Willow's Week list. I've posted a link over at Susanne's blog. Do pop over there to visit and check out others' FFFs.

1. Looking forward to writing my FFF this week after a two week sabbatical. Taking some time away from the computer was a refreshing change. But now I am happpy to be back and posting another Fave Five.

2. Family. There is nothing I love more than spending time with my family.

3. A windy day in Southern California. It wasn't so much that the wind was blowing. It was that the change in the wind direction and velocity substantially lowered the thermometer readings. Our temperatures have been in the high 40s at night and high 60s during the day. I pulled my gloves out of the top dresser drawer where they've been hiding for six months and wore them in the mornings as I clutched the steering wheel during my morning drive to work.

Here's proof of how windy it was Sunday afternoon at Ventura Harbor.
The surf was very high and turbulent, the crashing waves creating a huge amount of spray.
4. Wednesday afternoon spent in my garden, clipping and cleaning around the tomato plants and herbs, and bringing a fistful of parsley in to the kitchen to add to the lentil soup cooking on the stove.
5. This picture. An opened cotton boll with its lock of fiber, dry and fluffy, picked clean of its seeds. No special reason except that I took the photo and I love it.

How was your week?

  6. Welcome back, dear Willow!

I LOVE that cotton bole! I've never seen one before either -- no wonder folks complain about pickin' 'em! Those little things look sharp!

Family times ARE the BEST times - no doubt about that!

  17. Mmmm, lentil soup. That's always a cool weather favorite here at our house. Those windy pics are something. You'd almost think there was a hurricane blowing in. Keep warm and enjoy the weekend.

  20. Willow,
Is this a real cotton pod? I don't think I've ever seen one up close. Thanks for reminding us of how beautiful, yet dramatic S. California is. I lived in Pasadena for 8 years after I left Norway, but, as you know, Oregon has become my permanent place of residence. I love your Friday postings.

  21. One more thing,
Are they called cotton balls or bolls? Some of your readers are using "boll", but as I look on my cotton ball bag, I see cotton ball.

  22. It's nice to see another FFF at Willows Cottage!

It is cool - isn't it! I've also been wearing gloves in the early mornings and this is the nicest Fall I can remember.

  23. We had a pretty windy couple of days here too. Broke a big branch from one of our trees. Happy it didn't hit the house, or the dog.

Love the picture of your cotton boll. So nature-y. :)

  25. It was interesting to hear about the weather. When we left on our trip it was HOT. Now we are back and it's cool!

I loved the cotton picture...and also the waves crashing on the jetty. I could feel the wind blowing through those palms.

  26. Hello there! You really captured that wind blowing the palms well!

  27. Yes, a really high wind.
I agree your last shot is beautiful.
Maybe because of the very lovely colors?
