Can it be the last week of January? Flying past in wind and rain, the first month of 2010 is almost gone! Friday has arrived right on schedule and along with anticipation of the weekend comes participation in Friday's Fave Five, which is hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story.
1. After our weeks of back to back to back rain storms, I am reveling in some sunny warm days. Yes, I'm focusing on the weather again. I love sunshine.

2. I can't seem to get enough of this, either:

Although it didn't take much convincing, I persuaded The Professor to take a Sunday afternoon walk along the promenade in Ventura. Throngs of people and dogs had the same idea. Even the surfers were out in force, challenging the higher than usual waves.

3. As usual, I've kept my knitting needles near me all week. Because we will be traveling to a colder climate next weekend, I'm working on warm wooly mittens (blue, of course). I have delusions of finishing a sweater, too.
4. I discovered that the public library in the next town over has a large collection of novels by Elizabeth Goudge, who is one of my favorite authors. I checked out four books and am reading the first volume, Island Magic. Did you know you can knit and read at the same time if you choose a book that stays open on its own and a knitting project that doesn't need too much attention?
5. Speaking of knitting, I was able to join my crochet and knit group this evening for an hour of fellowship, fiber and fun. The hostess wanted to (re)learn to knit so I delightedly walked her through the steps of casting on and working a knit stitch.
Have you experienced some favorite moments or events this week? Share them with others, either in my comments or over at Susanne's blog where you can sign up with Mr. Linky.

  3. What a lovely week, Willow! :o) After weeks of gray, dully, foggy, and sometimes snowy, weather we've at last had some sun this week--so I know how you feel! I've been trying to read and knit at the same time--and you are right, the type of book, that lays flat, is important to overall success and enjoyment. Thank goodness of audio books and podcast though to supplement--LOL! Happy Weekend ((HUGS))

  6. Next, you will be taking simple projects into the movies. There's always another minute to knit if you look for it.

  7. I am roflmbo! The very idea of knitting and reading together! I can't even knit if that's ALL I'm doing AND concentrating REAL HARD! I can READ though! Yep! I'm pretty good at that one! I can read and pedal at the same time! Now THAT's coordination, right there! But knit!? Mmmm... you know... those needles are dangerous! Sometimes ya mean to make a sock and it turns out a turtleneck! Turtleneck socks! That's the truth!

Maybe you can knit & read at the same time, but that would spell certain knitting disaster for this novice knitter ;)

  9. Glad you've been able to click away and that you're getting some warmth together for your trip. I'm still impressed that the library had those books!

  10. I taught my friend Nancy how to use dpns yesterday. It's so exciting when you get the chance to teach someone who wants to learn a little more. It was great! Love you beach pics.

  12. I've tried knitting before and then I always take such long breaks from it that it seems I have to learn how to do it all over again! =D But it is a rather fun activity.

This year is certainly flying by, isn't it?

  13. Another lovely seascape! I also like the novels of Elizabeth Goudge, but read them a long time ago! Hmm I'll have to try the 'two-together' approach :) Enjoy the weekend! Ros

  15. You are very talented - I would never be able to knit and read at the same time! Hooray for EG books....you've discovered a treasure trove at that library.

  16. Knitting and reading at the same time? Oh wow, that is talent! Multi-tasking to the max!

Love the beach picture. I couldn't believe I saw surfers in there already. But I guess one cannot let a great wave go by.

  17. How neat to find a cache of books by one of your favorite authors. I don't think I've read any of her books. Glad that you've survived all of that rain that came your way. The blue skies are much nicer, I'm sure.

  18. Hooray for knitting and reading! That is one of the benefits I am finding to the nook; it always stays open :)

  19. You have me interested in Elizabeth Goudge now. I'd heard of The Little White Horse, but none of her other books. I love libraries, especially older ones. It's wonderful to find an old treasure in them.

  22. Thanks for visiting me at Hummingbird Creek and for your kind words.
I have a blanket on my dining room table waiting for me to finish crocheting. But I could never crochet and read at the same time. We have snow at my house this morning so I think I'll go work on my crocheting. Enjoy your sunshine!

  23. Love sunny days and waves too - and blue mittens :)

Not to mention Elizabeth Goudge - she's my favourite author I think. We don't have Magic Island in our library system but I saw a copy on Amazon.com for a reasonable price. I've read it before but I'd like to own a copy.

    Enjoy your reading and knitting.

    Happy weekend Willow!

  27. Thanks for stopping by my blog Willow. These pictures of the beach are great. Especially in light of the fact that I've been taking pictures of snow and ice lately! I got my 101 in 1001 days posted if you want to check it out.
    Have a great week!

  28. I've been looking for a new author, maybe I'll pick up one of her paperbacks at the used book store. Definitely can't do any kind of needlework and read though - you have quite a talent.

  29. Warm sunny days and the beach sound incredibly delightful! Glad you're able to enjoy them.

  30. I seriously do not think I could ever knit and read at the same time! I guess that's why they make audio books!!! I am longing for more sunshine right now... snow might be in our forecast again! Hope you had a good weekend!

  31. Some walk on beaches and enjoy the warmth and others strap on their ski boots and escape for a few days. We have a major white out on the hills today, so I have my knitting in my hands and have almost completed another scarf...I enjoy doing some simple things and completing them.
I am also joining a knitting group this FEb...just to enjoy the pleasure of learning new simple techniques...like I did not know that there was a European style of knitting...either from the back or front...Very interesting.
