Taking a Trip

I am traveling this weekend.  So I am preposting this Fave Five with Willow's Packing Tips.  I haven't heard if Susanne is traveling but you can check in at her blog Living To Tell the Story and find out who else is.

Willow's Travel Tips--Packing Plans

#1.  Pack your swimsuit first.  Every. Time.  Otherwise, like me, you will arrive at the fancy hotel with the pool and hot tub and sadly realize you forgot it.

#2.  a. Make careful plans for what you are planning to take with you.  Spend about fifteen minutes choosing your clothes and throwing them in your suitcase.
     b. You'll need a minimum of two hours to decide which knitting projects you wish to work on during your travels and adequate time to gather the yarns, patterns, needles and assorted accessories.  It would be wise to allow extra time for this step.

#3.  Carefully choose your reading material.  Take at least two books.

#4. Pack chocolate(s) and a camera. Remember the camera cables and batteries.

#5.  Before you begin to pack your bag, check the weather forecast for your desination.  If you do not include this step, #2a will take longer since you will need to pull out the short sleeved shirts and capris and repack the bag with cashmere sweaters, long slacks, and a rain slicker.

Hi, Willow! Great tips and very fun post! For traveling, I have master packing list on the pc that I check with--makes getting ready easy. Reader though I am, I don't pack as much reading anymore when we travel. I usually opt for a magazine over the bulk of books now. And always have sketchbook and pens ready. We're just back from traveling ourselves actually--got back on Wednesday. Lovely to be back and catching up with you I think we'll need the weekend to get over the jet lag and get back on track. ;o) Wishing you safe travels and Happy Days ((HUGS))

Ha Ha! leave it to you to take all that time with your knitting materials. Priorities, priorities. I always forget a swimsuit. Have fun!

LOL...you gave plenty of advice there, I will remember them. I knit too, and yes, it does take time to plan a knitting project for a trip. Lovely fave fives, and have a wonderful weekend.

Very cute, Willow. Could've used your tips earlier in the week when I arrived at the hotel and noticed the hot tub a few steps from my room door and I was sans swimsuit. Have a terrific time knitting, reading, and eating chocolates :-)

I definitely take at least two books when traveling. I keep my cross stitch projects in a little tote bag anyway, so they're easy to grab and go.

I tend to take twice as many clothes as needed, for all kinds of weather and events.

And all the chargers for phones, cameras, etc. -- packing gets complicated!

Have fun!

I need the 2 hours to decide what reading material to take! HA

I just noticed as I clicked over to comments that you've written about Sarum. I'm on my way back to check it out. I'm finishing my second Rutherfurd book, The Rebels of Ireland.

Enjoy your trip!

I'll have to print these out and put them in my suitcase for future reference. ;v) The thing I always forget is my housecoat and/or pajama's.

Definitely at least 2 books should go on any trip.

I feel I should say that you never need your swimsuit. When you forget it, I'd argue that it was intentional. Time to enjoy the pool, hot tub, or ocean with your birthday suit!

Hope you have a good trip.

Wait, you pack chocolate?! I actually never thought to do that, and I love the stuff! I agree that you should pack your swimsuit first, and even if you don't use it, its fine because it does not take up much room.

I would add to pack with at least a 24 hour lead, that way your brain has time to remember anything you may have forgotten to throw it.

I hope you are having a wonderful time! #1 is great advice. My husband once forgot to bring swimming trunks.. to a WATER PARK!!

It seems as though you are an expert packer. Anyone who remembers chocolate has got the right priorities.

Oh my! THIS is one of MY fave five! I couldn't agree with you more!

Great tips. I like how you thought of everything even the chocolate. I hope your vacation has been a great one. I also liked #1 as I have forgotten my suit before. One year my husband forgot to bring any underwear. So we had to track down a store to remedy that one (it was a G vacation). :)

Ha, ha. I can't count how many times I've forgotten a swim suit. Last year, Russ forgot his entire packed duffle bag when we went to Yosemite!

We usually fly a lot during the summer, but this summer we're driving, and I'm very excited to be able to bring as much knitting as I want in the car. No one's going to take away my knitting needles this year!

Hi Willow! I can see you are a veteran packer! And you have a sense of humor too.

Thanks for your comment just now about EG...and I wanted to tell you I'm just starting The Hole in the Gospel and can tell it'll be a fantastic read..and a convicting one too!

15 minutes to choose clothes - didn't you mean 15 days!

I always try to have a book with the plot set in the place where we are visiting. Ask the reference librarian, she can always come up with several title on almost anywhere.
