Hello from a very very frigid Ohio. How has your December days been so far?
It is Friday evening. I am posting my Friday Fave Fives from a town north of my home where I am enjoying a quiet(ish) weekend with my older daughter. Here are the blessings I am sharing from this past week.
1. This may sound boring, but I have been thankful all week for a warm home. An efficient furnace that works hard to heat the house.
2. Another boring thing. I am thankful for warm coats, hats, gloves and boots. We had almost five inches of snow accumulation this week. What would I do without adequately warm clothes?
3. The Professor and I were invited to join several other people in an Advent activity every Monday evening. It includes a simple meal of soup and bread. Then we sing Advent and Christmas songs and our host reads an Advent devotional. We have done this other years and thoroughly enjoy it.
4. Yesterday my Bible Study group (BSF) visited a local nursing home and rehab center. We brought lots of Christmas yummies-- all kinds of cookies and candies. We sang several Christmas carols and then spend some time chatting with the residents. I think it was as big a blessing to me as it might have been for the people who live or work there.
5. Lastly, I am thankful for my daughter inviting me to spend the weekend with her at a lovely bed and breakfast inn. She is dancing again in Nutcracker ballet. I brought books and yarn. I think this weekend away is going to be wonderful.

I am very thankful for your first two things too. How wonderful that you went to the nursing home!! Those people need something like this so very much!!
ReplyDelete...Linda, I wish you a Delightful December. Take care and be warm and well.
ReplyDeleteoh I LOVE mother daughter weekends and it sounds downright lovely. ENJOY every moment. The Advent group sounds perfect...what a great idea! I may steal that idea for next December.
ReplyDeleteWe had 6 inches officially here in Albany NY. I too am thankful for a warm house and clothing. the snow is pretty but the temps have felt more like midJan than early Dec for us.
ENJOY every single moment this weekend.
Your weekend does sound delightful. Your Advent Mondays also sound like a great tradition! Happy December to you.
ReplyDeleteIt's not boring at all to be thankful for a warm home. I've been abundantly thankful for being able to just push a button to heat mine. The Advent activity sounds interesting. How sweet to go to the nursing home. I think the individual attention of chatting with the residents means as much or more to some of them as the group gatherings. Your weekend with your daughter sounds like such fun!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I retract my comment to myself when I got up this morning. What we had (low 40s) was just cold compared to your frigid!
ReplyDeleteThat Advent gathering sounds perfect. Simple is often underrated.
BSF! I was in it for around 10 years. What a terrific thing to bless others with your sweet bounty.
Enjoy your lovely weekend away.
That was a nice time you had and spending a weekend with your daughter is wonderful ! I also like when it is warm and cozy, fortunately here in our castle it is always very warm. We don't have any snow yet !
ReplyDeleteOh, your weekend with your daugther at a B&B sounds wonderful!! How lovely!!! And that snowy scenery is beautiful, but yes, you are blessed to have warm clothes and gloves and scarves when it looks like that. I remember those days in Ohio and other parts of the north country. Living here in Florida we miss out on all that "fun", but I can't say I am sorry. Your trip to the nursing home with the BSF group sounds so nice. I know those dear ones enjoyed your visit so much. And the Advent Monday night gatherings sound really special and a wonderful way to usher in Advent. What a nice idea. Thank you for sharing this with us. what a blessing.
ReplyDeleteYour weekend with your daughter sounds so nice! That is also nice that you visited a nursing home. I am sure it made them smile. We have not had to turn on the heater yet. Our days have been in the 70's and the nights in 40's. We got new heating in air in August. The comforts of home is appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a lovely weekend with your daughter. And yes I think those of us who are now experiencing cold weather are grateful for warm homes!
ReplyDeleteYour two "boring" blessings are some of our greatest blessings, especially in the weather we live in. It's below normal cold here and we've had lots of snow too. But the snowy tree picture sure is lovely. Your advent activity sounds lovely and meaningful. I'm sure your visit with the nursing home was very much appreciated and enjoyed by the residents. Sounds like a lovely getaway with your daughter!!
