Happy Independence Day!
July 4th, 2009

When they put their signatures on 'the line', the signers of the American Declaration of Independence did not know whether they were actually signing their death notices or an historic document that would change the course of Old and New World history. We know, and we thank them today for their courage, their audacity, their determination.
Celebrate thoughtfully.
I hope you had a lovely 4th July. Sorry this is so short- off for a few days.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder of what it's all about.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding us of this. Excellent. Hope yours was wonderful :) Aloha
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice reminder, Mums, and I love the picture of the flag. Lovely. Also, I love your banner with the turquoise background for the flowers! :o)
ReplyDeleteHello - just found your blog while blog hopping. Hope you don't mind a visit! Love those flowers against the blue in your header - beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July to you too. I love how Nickolas Cage sums it up on National Treasure....that if we would have lost then the men would have been tried for treason and goes into the specifics of what that meant.
ReplyDeleteOur forefathers risked a lot to stand on their beliefs and gave all for a future that was non existent yet.
Hi there! Happy days (since the 4th is over!). Had wanted to email you but there's no email on yr blog. We're now in the most northern part of Germany, on the island Sylt, off the coast of Denmark.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a lovely 4th weekend, Willow! :o) ((HUGS))
ReplyDeleteA visiting priest from Liberia gave his homily on Sunday and told us how Liberia has adopted our government and has seen their own revolution, and is especially thankful to Americans for providing educational materials so that they could learn. In hard times like this we forget that we have had good influence in the world and have made lots of children's lives so much richer and full! Happy 4th!
ReplyDeleteI hope you had a nice 4th, Willow. That is a particularly beautiful picture of our flag and thank you for the excellent thought-provoking post.
ReplyDeleteWillow,
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoyed the festivities. A great reminder of our forefathers. My maternal great-grandfather was from the US, so my roots are there also.
Enjoy your week.
Blessings,
Mary
BTW your banner photo is gorgeous!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a bit ironic but I usually rewatch the Gettsyburg mini series staring Tom Berenger, Jeff Daniels, Martin Sheen at this time of year (the battle was fought over the 4th). It's based on the novel The Killer Angels and I find it really powerful - as was the book if you haven't read it.
ReplyDeleteSo true Willow ...our forefathers were such brave and committed men.
ReplyDeleteIts the most precious day, breathing an independent air,I wish to have the most entertainment this day.
