Friday Fave Five #30

Welcome to the weekly post for Friday Fave Five. FFF is hosted by Susanne over at Living To Tell The Story.

1. Books. This is what's on my book table.

2. The book in the middle of the photo above was a birthday present from a good, non-blogging friend. I had mentioned to her in a discussion about knitting books that Knitting The Threads Of Time had been recommended by Jocelyn at Knitting Linguist and I wanted to read it. When I was over at her place, visiting her garden, well, there it was. I'm looking forward to having some time this weekend to read it.

3. I finished reading The Graveyard Book which Chaplain Dan and The Princess gave me last weekend for my birthday. It is the newest Newbery Award book. It's a mostly delightful read, with flashes of brilliance (in my humble opinion, because it made me laugh).

4. Another friend and I have been wishing each other 'Happy Birthday' every March for the past mumblemumble years. On Sunday we celebrated together with our husbands at PF Chang's. Great food, great fellowship, great memories.

5. The New Boy is learning to walk! He is taking a few steps, stopping and contemplating his uprightness and then sinking to his knees, having thought better of this new method of forward locomotion. But it won't be long until there will be no stopping him!

6. I just have to add one more~ The Professor and I ordered some garden seeds online from Victory Seeds of Molalla, Oregon, a purveyor of rare and heirloom seeds. I'm looking forward with excitement to receiving them (in 2-3 weeks, they're back logged!) and planting some carrots and cucumbers and squash and lettuces and, oh, a few other things....

To share in the fave fun, go on over to Susanne's blog.

I always enjoy your Friday Fave Fives, Willow!
Nice stack of books you have in progress. I read a few at a time too.

Hia Willow, what a great Fav 6. :-) I have the herb one too- it's a great one to find the right variety for the place you have prepared.

I am growing seeds too. It's so good that you are using heirloom seeds as so often new varieties with better disease resisitance are planted and old varieties die out. It is such a loss of diversity. It is happening with orchards in England. With roses this "better" breeding has led to roses which look good and are easier to grow, but they have no smell compared to the old beauties. I am glad David Austin roses are trying to put things right. When I move, my roses come with me as they are old friends and impossible to replace.

Books - my favourite kind of post. I've never heard of The Graveyard Book - I'll have to request it at the library.

Cartomancy? I'm going to have to look up that word...
New Boy is going to be happy with what walking is going to afford him. Y'all brace yourselves!! :0)
I'm thinking there'll be more opportunities to burn calories keeping up with him ...

Good luck with you garden. Can't wait to see how it turns out. Growing things is so rewarding. And I will have to put that knitting book on my list as well. I love a good read and if it coincides with a good hobby all the better!

Have a great weekend.

I had heard that seed companies were doing well as people begin thinking about gardening again. Do tell what you've ordered!

Oh, I love the Dummy books! In fact, for Mother's Day, I've asked for Herb Gardening for Dummies (if they can find it at a reasonable price ... the used copies I see are $68!). I might opt for Your Backyard Herb Garden instead.

I love your reference to "mumblemumble years". Too funny!

Congratulations on The New Boy's first steps! Precious times.

You have a nice stack of books there, I love books. I might see about getting that one about gardening for dummies..my poor plants don't always make it.

Ooooh, that will be fun, watching those seeds grow into rare varieties of "forgotten" vegetables! Even I am looking forward to see them grow, because I'm sure you'll post pictures on your blog?
You had a great week, I hope the next one is even better!

I'm so excited for you and your seeds! What is it about seeds that makes them so bewitching--even if it's a friend getting them?

Great list, Willow. Quite a stack of reading you have! The herb one sounds very interesting.

And exciting time watching the little guy learning to walk! He'll be motoring in no time!

I thought I'd come over here and "meet" you Willow. I've been seeing your little bunny everywhere. :-) What a lovely blog you have.

Our little grand daughter Avery is just days away from getting over her fear of letting go of our fingers and actually taking that first step on her own - so much fun.

Hi Willow. What a lovely stack of books you have on your night table! Have fun watching the little one walk.

Great reading list! And a very Happy Birthday to you! :)

Well, as you often do, you have inspired me. I headed over to Victory Seed right after reading your post and ordered myself some fun seeds. My mom has ordered from them, but I never think to order seeds until it's so hot that the seedlings don't have a chance. I think I'm early enough this year. Yay!

What a great blog post! It looks like you have plenty to read. My bedside table is now spilling onto the floor cause I haven't finished one book that I've planned to read! I hope the seeds grow well. I always love reading about people who can garden because I am quite a brown thumb.

blessings,

susan

Sounds like you will be doing a little gardening soon!

That is quite a variety of books you've got...interesting reading. Yes, I'm going to have to look up "cartomancy" like Ellen.

Sorry we missed connecting Sunday. Your celebration at PF Changs sounds yummy....I love their food.
