Friday's Fave Five hosted by Susanne helps us focus on the favorite parts our week. It's our own Week in Review. Thank you, Susanne, for hosting FFF every week!
1. There has been a perfect combination of rain and sunshine to make the garden wake up.
2. My friend who owns Ojai Lavender and Roses Farm gifted me with four David Austin roses!
Right now, there's not much to see except a few new leaves on the bushes, but in a few months I'm hoping to have beautiful Fair Bianca and Eglantyne blooms cut and placed in vases gracing my dining table. I'm so very thankful for my generous friend!
3. On Saturday, I joined some friends to celebrate 'our birthdays'. Even though I wasn't feeling the best because of my cold, I had a great time catching up with all the news in the lives of those five dear friends.

4. It's obviously March! The wind is blowing, and the kites are flying! And that means Spring is coming!
5. The Professor and I have been reminiscing in the evenings by sorting photos. He volunteered to choose, classify, and scan some family photos and documents for his siblings, and I have been culling and collating photos from my side of our family. While the process isn't always the most fun activity, the final product will be something our families can treasure in the years to come, in a manageable form. Time and Newsweek may not run an article about The Professor's grandmother winning $1.00 in a crossword puzzle contest or do a feature on my grandparents' trip to San Francisco, but those memories make our lives richer.
How did you make memories this week? What events are featured on your faves list?
Share them over at Living To Tell the Story or leave a comment here if you wish. Thank you for all your good wishes for my health this week. The Professor and I lost the fight with the cold germs, but we are determined to win the battle. Echinacea tea and Airborne are on our side!

So Mr. bug has come to visit you again at your cottage. Time to tell him to go away! Wow that is going to be a great accomplishment to get those family photos sorted. Good for you two for taking it on. That is so great that you were gifted those rose bushes. Are they going in the front planter? Hope your weekend is peaceful...
This is a beautiful post as usual. though I am not doing the FFF, I still love reading all your stories. It makes me more appreciative of the little things that make us happy in life. Have a good weekend. I have 3 Malay weddings esok, and in total 5 Malay weddings this month. Tentu gemok :P
Catching up with friends and birthday celebrations, nice weather and new rose bushes, it looks like you had a great week! And I loved reading about it!
I enjoyed reading your list. I hope someday I will have time to organize our photos :).
Happy Belated Birthday! I hope and pray that you and your husband will feel much better soon.
what a lovely post. We are still at the end of winter here and not so much the beginning of spring yet. But, your flowers or the start of flowers look so pretty.
Good for you sorting out the photos - a big job but you will be so happy when you're through. And your fmaily will appreciate it - it's like building a family archive. I need to do it too.
I love the picture of the kite against the blue sky - so lovely!
Isn't it nice to anticipate the blooms - my hydrangea has some shoots showing and I love going out and inspecting it in the early mornings. I'm hoping a surprise frost or spring snowstorm won't kill it. It's early days for sprouting up here.
Well I hope your colds are all better soon.
Happy weekend!

This is a sweet post, Willow! Sorry you've not been feeling too well... do hope you will feel better very soon! :o) A David Austen rose... what a treat! Will look forward to see it in bloom. That's wonderful of the Professor to do all the photos. And I'm with you on the everyday, magic moment of daily life compared to what's big in the news. National and International news is good to know, and I like to be informed, I used to me a news hound when I was in my teen/early 20's... not anymore! LOL! The real, in my life, everyday--that is news to me. Be taking good care... Happy Weekend ((HUGS))
Your professor's grandma winning a dollar on a puzzle contest is just awesome! I love the way you described March.
Wow, love the pictures. What an upbeat and refreshing list. Being thankful is so much more productive and life affirming. What a wonderful project to preserve your family history with the photos. Thanks for the sneak peek into your week.
Nope! Time holds NOTHIN' on us! You are RIGHT about that! I bet those roses are going to be just beautiful for you! (for me they would be dead...) I can't wait to see a PICTURE of them on your dining table! I have no flower buds... but my grass is starting to GREEN! I'm excited! And the trees are budding leaves! And the birds are not QUITE as busy at the feeders... another sure sign!
A birthday get-together with 5 friends surely sounds like FIVE things to be happy about! Love it!
How wonderful. I especially loved that part of the grandmother that won the $1.00 for the crossword puzzle. Life has such sweet gifts. :)
Sorting through old photographs is always such a lovely way to spend the day, although I often find it bittersweet. It certainly brings home to me how quickly time passes. The Commander was out your way this week, enjoying the beach views in-between his business meetings although I think our weather was actually warmer. Hope you feel better soon.
Colds. Bleh! =D Here's hoping we all get over this quickly.
LOVED your remark that Time Magazine has nothing on FFF! I AGREE! ;D
Have an awesome weekend!
Your first couple of paragraphs made me smile. That is exactly how I feel about FFF. I love recapturing the good family things and blessings throughout the week.
It's windy here to but I'm trying to look at it like a sign of spring also.
Yeah for your hubby giving you a hand with the photo's. That job is incredibly overwhelming and that is why mine are still all sitting there. :v}
Happy Birthday!
How exciting to be gifted those rose bushes!
It's great that you and the Professor are getting your family photos archived. We are getting ready to start on that with my hubby's side of the family. I already got a CD full of 120 photos of his mom together, but there is much more to be done!
I also agree with your thoughts on the news!
I hope you both feel better soon. We all just barely got over one bug, but another seems to be starting.
I'm loving the first signs of spring, too.
How wonderful to receive a gift of roses!
I think your #5 is my favorite.
I love your opening comment. Reading through FFF has so much more meaning to me than Time Magazine!
I SO need to be doing what you are doing and sort through photos. Maybe this summer I will get around to it. Enjoy!
Your life is rich with personal memories. Let's go fly a kite! Happy FFF. :~D
I love your FFFs ~ it puts things in perspective and is a reminder to focus on the many blessings we have in our lives. Glad you are getting over that cold :)
Pictures tell such a story of what has happened in our lives. How wonderful it is that you and your hubby can share in this treasure together.
Grace to you

Yay for awakening gardens! I reeeeeally hope Fair Bianca does well for you. It's really a charming little shrub when it does well. But it was always wimpy for me and I don't want you to think it's anything you're doing if yours is wimpy, too. Best wishes to your rose ;-)
My, that project of sorting photos sounds HUGE. But well worth it and I wish you both success.
Happy Birthday Willow, Sorry to hear you've caught a cold. I have a chest infection and its making its prescence felt today. Shame because it is mothers day here tomorrow and Ali is home for the weekend. Hope you feel better soon. Jane x
Colds, colds everywhere -- that's what I'm hearing. They must come right alongside spring. Hope they've taken their leave by now.
Your photos are beautiful, and I know the sorting process will yield some beautiful things...memories.
Sooo, if your sister-in-law and teenage son were coming for visit, and you only had one day in your neck of the woods, where would you take them? I've been thinking the Getty since we'll be spending several days at Central Californian beaches later in the week.
Sounds like you have some big projects ahead of you...It's always scary when you attack those together unless...one is prepared to purge.
Enjoy the journey of sorting...because it definitely brings back many memories.
First of all, I am pleased that you and the Prof share this bond and quiet time, while you do such a lovely thing for those that follow you.
I would take the view that our family is the world at large too, but that's me. The roses are a beautiful gift, literally the gift that keeps on giving. Please feel better soon. Peace, X.
I think nothing beats family in importance
Feel better! Colds can be so persistently yucky...
I really appreciated your kind comment on my blog. Thank you. I think there is a market for handmade things--we just have to seek out others that value our creations. It can be hard to find, but the alternative, at least for me, is an enormous pile of finished things--more than I could ever use on my own! (ok, that is a little funny when I imagine it-- and very Dr. Seuss like!)
You know... I wish you the best in all things!!!
Sorry you've been under the weather again but glad it didn't keep you from celebrating with your friends. Loved your spring images and faves ... it's been windy down here in So Cal too, but it's still and warmer today.
Hugs and blessings,
I love going through old photos... and making art with them!
I absolutely agree with you -- the "news" always neglects to mention those things that make me happy to be alive and a member of my society. Your news is much better :)
I love your photos so much! I can't wait to see pictures of the roses when they bloom!
