Instead of correcting papers and writing thank you notes to those students who sweetly and kindly presented me with end of the year pressies, I've been reading Sarum--The Story of England by Edward Rutherfurd. I mentioned the novel in a recent post because Sara had recommended the author. I'm captivated by history in general, and I love British history in particular. Add in the fact that The Professor and I visited Old Sarum and Salisbury a few years ago, and I have a perfect match of interests.
View of the Old Sarum church ruins from the top of the hill
Willow pretending to be Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine (Did you ever watch Katharine Hepburn as Queen Eleanor in The Lion In Winter?) imprisoned in the castle by her husband King Henry II
Stonehenge is mentioned in one of the early chapters of Sarum.
I love the memories of our trips to England that Sarum is invoking!

How fun to read a good book that brings back and enhances your good memories...
I swear you look different in every photo I see of you Willow. Those ruins are gorgeous and I look forward to touring Great Britain in the near future..
I've only been to England once, but I have so many wonderful memories from my visit. I'm adding that novel to my list.
Stonehenge never fails to cast a spell on me and we drive past it most times we go down to Dorset. There's another Bernard Cornwell book linked to Stonehenge, http://www.bernardcornwell.net/index.cfm?page=2&bookid=32 its a brilliant book. jane x
I have some lovely memories of England as well. We lived there for about 5 years. So I think I need to check out this book!
Yes, I think it'll be my next Rutherfurd!
Now I have not been to Sarum!
You might be interested to know that a passageway in Salisbury was named 'Rutherfurd Walk' a few years ago after the author.
That's a great picture of you!!!
