April Showers, Birds and Hikes

It's been a busy time here at Willow's Cottage and this is the first post I've written all week.  Time to catch up and think about the good parts of the week.  Friday Fave Fives really helps me do that.  Susanne at Living to Tell the Story leads us in choosing five things from our week that have helped us to be thankful and notice gratitude.  Here are mine:

1.  Encouraging words from friends concerning a difficult situation.  I meet weekly via zoom with friends.  We call ourselves the Art Girls (you can guess why).  Because I was stressed about something, they encouraged me and really helped me focus on the right way to handle things.

2.  The birds are back in force at my bird feeder.  I love watching them snack on the seeds I provide for them.  Birds make life happier and make me smile.

3.  More hikes.  It really is spring!  On Tuesday evening, the Trail Life troop hiked in a local preserve again.  Although it had been raining quite a bit this past week and the creek was up, we ventured through the mud and water, up and down the banks of the stream and had a great time.  (I'm the honorary grandma who hikes with them)  The best part?  Tall Boy was very solicitous for my safety as we crossed creek beds on rocks and climbed up slick and muddy edges, even holding my arm and escorting me along in front of his buddies.  Then we also had a fun hike at the local arboretum again.  Almost three miles.

4.  I guess I should be thankful for all the rain we are having.  April showers bring May flowers.  I need to just focus on being thankful that we aren't in drought.

5.  The spinning wheel is out and I've been working on some merino and silk fiber.  No photos yet.  But hopefully, in the next day or two I will have finished a skein of it.

Now I am off to watch my older daughter (she who is a rocket scientist) dance in the local production of Swan Lake.  Happy Happy Friday to you all.

We've been enjoyed some lovely sunny weather and although I'll be sad to see some rain next week I do know it's needed. Looking forward to seeing your spinning progress. Have a good weekend.

How am I just learning that your rocket scientist daughter dances ballet???!!! Claire would love to be dancing again but she just can't afford the exorbitant class fees on top of rent and taking a required class to get her optician license. Rent is insane here in NYS. I might gift her with dance lessons for xmas if the adult ballet company is still offering them.
YAY for getting in a hike and how wonderful your grandson helped you. He's a good boy!! that speaks highly of his parents, too.
I hope you have a good weekend.....we are getting rain as I type this.

Lovely, full week for you. We haven’t had a lot of rain, but it’s warm enough to bring out leaves and flowers. Spring is a wonderful time! A rocket scientist who dances ballet: such a fun combination. You’ll have to let me know your best sources for fiber. I’m ready for some more, although I have quite a stash of creamy BFL. I really enjoy spinning it. Mary

Sweet boy to take care of his grandmother. Smiling at the juxtaposition of a rocket scientist dancing in a ballet...

What a sweet time with your Zoom group. I have one for writing, and it's much the same--we've gone beyond our original purpose to become friends and encouragers. Yay for birds and hikes! What a fun combination-- a rocket scientist and a ballet dancer!

I meant to say, too, that was so sweet of your grandson to take care of you on the hike.

I am impressed that you have a spinning wheel and even know how to use it! You must be very fit to walk all that distance. I agree about birds. We just put out some suet and I will have fun watching.

Your daughter is so talented. My granddaughter is taking honor classes and a ballet class. We have had some rain, but we need more. I wish there was a place in my city that I could go hiking. There is a regional park about 13 miles from me that I like to walk. I hope to get there in the next few weeks. Happy Sunday!

I just noticed that Google has changed my "Blogger" name (Gattina) into my real name ! We had a wonderful week behind us sunshine everyday and yesterday we could sit outside even in the shade ! I try to walk in our park as much as I can, but only because I have to (order from my doctor) otherwise I am far too lazy, have always been, even as a child !

Oh, I love this so much. There’s nothing quite like the steady, uplifting presence of good friends—especially creative ones like the Art Girls! It’s amazing how just a few kind, grounded words can shift our whole perspective when things feel overwhelming. So glad you had that support when you needed it most. Here’s to friendship, art, and the kind of conversations that help us find our way forward.

How wonderful to have a circle like the Art Girls to lean on. It’s in those moments of stress or uncertainty that the true value of friendship really shines, isn’t it? Sometimes just being heard and gently redirected by people who care can make all the difference. It sounds like your weekly catch-ups are as much therapy as they are creativity!

I guess it's been busy in my neck o' the woods since it's Wednesday night before I even saw your post! Encouragement, happy birds, and hikes. I bet all the new green along your hike (well, with all that water!) was a sight to behold. Glad you had a solicitous hiker with you.
