It's Friday and the end of the first week of February. It is also Friday Fave Fives day. (the link takes you to Susanne's blog where you can join us) But that's not what makes this day the most important.
So why is it an important day?
1. It's Tall Boy's Birthday! He's eighteen! How did he grow up so fast?? He went from this
3. Earlier this week, two young men from a local chimney company came to inspect our fireplace. The result was the best we could have asked for. By the end of this month, we should have a safe and functioning wood burning fireplace, again!
4. I am a bit later than usual today posting my FFFs because I was busy doing something else. That something involved hot tea and homemade scones. My daughter in law invited me to spend an hour or so with her. We discussed all kinds of things. One topic was the Well Read Mom group we are in is going to be reading Dante's Purgatory in February. I have never read it, but of course, The Professor has and owns an interesting translation of it. We spent some time comparing our versions. I am loving having my daughter in law living just two miles away from me.
5. The issue with my computer not playing nicely with my camera will be solved soon. The solution is that I will be getting a new computer as my current one is old and quite outdated. The Professor has been researching all the options and has come up with the best choices and prices. I am happily anticipating having a new computer. And being able to post new photos. And. I am thankful that the other person who lives in this house is so knowledgeable and experienced with computers. (If you are a new reader of my blog, you may not know that The Professor taught computer science/literacy at a California State University for the last ten years before he retired. And before that, he worked many years for Intel Corporation. So, yes, he knows his computers.)
I hope your week has been filled with many blessings, too!

...growing up, that's what happens when you feed them well!
Oh how wonderful to have your very own computer professor in the house! And it sounds like even though he retired, he is till trying to keep up with the latest technology! That's wonderful!! We could all use a computer technology professor in our lives! It's so hard keeping up with all the newest stuff!
Oh, Happy Birthday to your Tall Boy. He is very tall and handsome. Like my grandson...he's 6'4" and I really have to look up to him!!! Of course, he's 26 now, but he's been tall for a while! Oh, the tea and scones with your daughter in law sounds so lovely!! What kind of scones were they? Whatever they were, just being with someone so special makes them perfect! What a lovely way to spend a snowy day!! What a blessing! I am happy my daughter in law lives close also, but she works full time and isn't really a tea/scones kind of person, but however, she did bake some delicious banana muffins for us this past week on her day off and they came over and we had a taco/mexican style supper, at her request and with her assistance. She probably would enjoy the tea and scones if she had more time.
It is wonderful to have a warm house this winter. Even here in Florida, we are quite thankful for our warm house and we keep a lot of blankets handy as well. Just no snow here, but we did have to scrape the ice off the windshield this morning!!! Have a lovely weekend, and stay warm!
Our mom always told us the time goes by quickly - she was right!
How exciting to get a new computer and have the Professor to help you. Where did he teach at? I graduate from UCI, class of 1977. Happy Birthday to your grandson! Mine turned 18 in November. Time does fly even faster that before! That is nice that you are close to your DIL. I have never made scones, but I would like to try someday. Stay warm and have a nice weekend!
How awesome that your husband is a computer tech expert!! We have had to have them come over quite a bit, and they cost a fortune, plus travel costs. It is always so exciting to get a new computer and see all the new things it can do.
How fun that you’re going to get a new computer! There’s always a bit of a learning curve with a new electronic device, but they usually make things go much more smoothly for us in the long run.
Oh I wish I had a computer expert in the house but we do have a local guy who has done repairs on our laptops before and he's always happy to answer questions and give advice. We too will be getting new laptops soon. Happy birthday to Tallboy. Yes they grow too quickly - my baby turned 36 yesterday!
Yes enjoy being in the warm in your cold weather and hope it doesn't take too long to get the fireplace sorted.
Yikes! Tall boy is 18! He and Hope were born in the same winter. I do remember when he was just a little tyke. Tall is an appropriate title for him and yes, now he is an adult in the eyes of the world. God bless him and keep him!
Pleased with you that you have your family so close!
WOW 18 already!!! Happy Birthday to him.
and double wow: Dante's Purgatory is a huge undertaking....I've read bits and pieces of The Divine Comedy but definitely not the whole sections. Good luck!!
Yes, isn't wonderful being married to someone who knows computers?! Mine is a software engineer who studied Computer Science for his MS degree and I love that he likes me to have a good laptop (I have a now almost ten yr old Apple Macbook Air that I just love and keep doing the software updates so, so far so good but I anticipate I'll need a new one in a few years. I love apple products.
Loved reading your list today on this bitter cold windy but sunny Saturday
Happy birthday to Really Tall Boy! :) How precious to spend time with your d-i-l. Yay for warm houses and blankets and working fireplaces and new computers!
Happy Birthday to Tall Boy. How quickly they grow up, right? Your week sounds full of cozy moments and good surprises, from warm blankets to scones and insightful chats. How do you feel about diving into Dante’s Purgatory—excited or a little intimidated? Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with more warm tea and happy moments. I just shared a new travel post and would love for you to take a peek too www.melodyjacob.com
Hello! Happy Birthday to him! The years pass so quickly. My baby is sixteen!!! And I am beyond thankful that I have two sons-in-law that are all about technology! Have a cozy Sunday.
Happy Birthday to your boy!
It’s so nice that you and your DIL are in a book club together. A friend of mine has a “family book club” with her two sons and her DILs. Love that idea. I proposed it to my family, but it fell flat!
Happy Birthday to your boy. Beautiful photos. How nice to have your own computer tech.
Happy Birthday to Tall Boy! 🎉💛 Eighteen already — time really does fly! I love how you make this moment so special and share the excitement with your Friday Fave Fives too. Here’s to a wonderful year ahead for him, full of joy and memorable moments! 🥳✨
Happy Birthday... oh they do grow up so fast.

Our week was not cold at all, but unfortunately rainy and foggy. My grandson is now 15 years old and measures 2,2 m (7 ft) I wonder when he stops growing ! You are lucky to have such a nice relationship with your DIL, mine is a bit special, she never talks or asks something and is also rather shy. She behaves like that with both of us. My son and grandson come mostly without her to visit me.
Hot tea, homemade scones and wonderful company to share it with. What a blessing Happy belated to your grandson!
