I had big plans to post a couple of times this week. You can see (actually, you can't see) that that didn't happen. But I really need to pause and be thankful on Fridays even if I am busy all the rest of the week. Friday Fave Fives does that for me.
1. Tall Boy graduated from high school! Because the weather was wet and rainy, the usual outdoor graduation ceremony at the football stadium was moved to the basketball court inside. It was a bit more crowded and seating was limited. I am thankful I could attend in person and watch him walk across the platform and accept his diploma.
Celebrating with Tall Boy and his best friend
2. Monday was Memorial Day. We spent the whole day at home. In the evening, we did our first bonfire of the season. Some of the family joined us. Weather was perfect and it was a good evening. Both of our fathers served in the US military during WWII. And so did two of my uncles. The Professor served in the US Army in Vietnam. And our son is a US Army Reserve Chaplain. Memorial Day is important to us.
3. On Tuesday, we drove north about an hour to meet up with our friends who drove about an hour south from their home. We've been friends since we all lived in Oregon and attended the same church. They chose a very interesting place for us to have lunch. Buckeye Express Diner. It's a train car turned into a restaurant. I'm sure we will visit it again.
Sign at the gas station pointing us to the street taking us to the diner.
4. A local brewery hosts a Trivia Night every Wednesday evening. The Professor and I joined our three adult kids who live in our town and a couple who Older Daughter knows to play as a team. We didn't win first place, but we didn't end up in the last place, either. It was fun. And I am thankful that we can enjoy impromptu time with our family.
5. A few days this week, the weather has been perfect for messing in the garden. I am in the process of 'redoing' the front gardens. I finished clearing one section and planted some zinnias around the edges. I'm liking the new look.
How was your week?

What a wonderful week you had! Congrats to the new graduate! Any plans for a job or college? The train restaurant is awesome, wish I could go.
Congrats to the graduate. Glad you could attend. I hadn't posted since last Friday either. Some weeks just run away with you but good to be busy and meeting up with friends is always good - especially in such an unusual restaurant setting. Have a good weekend.
Congratulations to "Tall Boy" and his friends! Such a wonderful accomplishment! Oh, I love that train restaurant! That looks like a fun place to eat!! Sounds like you've had a wonderful week. Your little garden looks nice too, and I can imagine it will be a bright and cheery welcome to your home! Have a happy June/summer!!
...I'd love to visit the Buckeye Express Diner. It's easy to see how "Tall Boy" got his nickname.
When I clicked on your link via the name of the diner it brought me to Susanne's blog! I'll check it out in a different tab. Looks like an awesome place for lunch. The village I was born and raised in for 20 yrs has afamous diner that was featured on the today show several years ago. Oldest diner in the nation supposedly and in a train car. has the world's largest omelette so some such thing. Google Herkimer Empire Diner/Crazy Otto's.
Congrats to Tall Boy on his HS graduation. Will he be off to college?
Trivia Night with your family sounds wonderful.
I kind of re-did parts of my front flower garden and moved a plant to the backyard near our firepit last month. The flowers are doing well this year as it's been so nice and just the perfect amount of rain.
Enjoy the weekend!
OH....yes.....my hair stylist who has been in the business for over 35 yrs says as a woman ages, long hair makes her look even older and drawn out in the face. She recommends shorter cuts and trendy ones especially if your hair like mine is super thick, heavy and grows fast. I say GO for it!!
Congratulations to the tall graduate! Who would have predicted y'all would end up in Ohio living close to each other??? God is good in so many ways.
So many different and fun activities this week. No chance of being bored!
Was that your new sweater you were wearing? That blue is a great color for you. Mary
Is that Tall Boy of the left? He is tall indeed! The diner looks like fun. The flower bed looks nice. It will be fun to see it fluff out over the summer.
Congratulations to your grandson! Mine graduates on Tuesday at the Toyota Arena in Ontario. Meeting up with your friends at the Train Diner sounds like fun! I am recuperating from our mini vacation in Vegas. Have a great weekend!
Congratulations to the graduate and his friend.
I had a good week and am looking forward to what June offers. Have a blessed weekend.
Hi Willow. I had a relaxing time for the most part at Vegas. I do not gamble and would rather spend my money on something I can use. I did stop at a scrapbooking store and found a few things there.
Congratulations to the graduate! The diner looks so neat. Have a lovely June afternoon!
Hello Willow,
I am so happy for your graduate. :-)
I am re doing a garden too. It takes time. I am currently thinking about plants. Ha!
Happy June,
Carla
Huh. I guess there's a reason he's called Tall Boy! Congrats to the graduates.
The Buckeye Express looks like a fun place to dine. What a nice shot you got of it looking like it's on train tracks.
Sounds like you all had a terrific time at Trivia Night. Obviously, y'all know things if you didn't come in last place!
Your garden is looking tidy and ready for the season. There used to be a guy giving Midwesterner gardening advice on spacing of annuals. He said those recommended placements were for California and not their shorter season climate :-)
