Early October Faves

Friday Fave Five.  October 8, 2010.
Linking to Susanne's Friday Fave Five is a tradition here at Willow's Cottage.  I love this exercise in gratitude.  If you would like to join, you can link up at Living To Tell The Story.

1. Don't you love weeks that slip by without drama or extended driving?  Of course, sometimes it's fun to travel, but after many trips this year, I'm happy to be home for a few weeks.

2. We (meaning The Professor did it while I sat and watched) finally figured out how to get the camera and the laptop to talk with each other and play nice.  In any relationship communication is a key component.

Here's the proof. On Saturday morning of our weekend in Humboldt County, we joined a group of his classmates on a dunes and beach walk.  Fog hung densely and deeply in the trees and dunes vegetation.  Hoping for a better ocean view I walked ahead.  As I turned around, I saw The Professor and three friends silhouetted against the foggy background.

3. Rain.  For three days this week, it poured in Southern California.  Marking the first measurable rain in five months, the storm soaked quickly into our very dry ground and caused all the plants to slurp up the moisture as fast as they could.

4. Sunshine. After the rain. Most fall/winter rainstorms in Southern California last three days. I don't know why. They just do.  Then the sun shines again.

5. Lavender. It's one of my favorite plants.  I love the blooms.  I love the colors.  I love the smell.  Because one of the bushes outdid itself in growth this summer, I had to cut it back severely since it was overwhelming plants on all sides.  Carrying armloads of fragrant lavender clippings from the garden to the yard debris can wasn't a chore. It was heavenly.

Thanks for reading Willow's Week in review.  How was yours?

Mmm wish I could smell that lavender with you. Do you ever dry it and add it to sachets? I'm going to plant some next year.

Love your foggy picture.

Have a wonderful weekend Willow!

Hurray for computers that will "see" cameras! I love your foggy photo. Glad you got good rain -- ours was small stuff, but still so good for the plants.

Mmmm, lavender. Have you found that wearing a lavender-scented lotion will repel mosquitoes? I discovered that by accident when I started using some I had gotten from an herb farm in Texas. People were getting bit like craze around me but the mosquitoes were avoiding me like the plague. It's a lovely side benefit to this great plant.

I think that photo of the guys is so cool!!!! And I'm a fan of lavender too! I put little sprigs in my wedding invitations. Well, this week was very eventful as last night Ellie was sprayed by a skunk in our front yard and I've been dealing with stinky smells all day!!!

Sounds like you've had a good week Willow. Love that lavender! Can't have it in my home due to a sensitivity to it, but can smell it when it's growing outside. I love that you love white as much as I do. A white sofa, now that's special. I don't even own a sofa, got tired of lugging the heavy things around many years ago, and did away with it. But, if I had one now, it would probably have white slipcovers. Have a super weekend.

LOVE the foggy photo! Ah, electronic gadgets cooperating, no drama, a hint of lavender... *sigh*...oh yes, very good week! After finally feeling back on track with things after our own travels lately, and a busy week, it's slow time this weekend and loving it! Happy Days, my friend :o) ((HUGS))

The fog shot is really nice.

I love weeks that just sort of slip by with no rushing around and no drama. Enjoy your few weeks of relaxation at home.

Beautiful photo Willow, We had 5 days continuous rain and it was so heavy that the roads were awash! the poor guttering needs more brackets and the leaves clearing! Autumn is creeping in now as we've had several warm sunny days and cool nights at this end of the week. Your lavender looks beautiful too. I bought some for our front garden this year. Jane x

Rain and lavender and fog - you hit most of my very favorite things this week. Foggy Humboldt beaches used to be one of my favorite places to hang out.

That's a fab foggy photo. I love lavender too, although it's not quite common in my part of the globe. I got a few lavender fragrances in my bathroom.

P.S. The cleaners must have thought I was bonkers. I wished I danced too but I could only muster a little voice culture after that drama :D

I had to enlarge that lavender picture. So pretty.

What a great fog photo! I really love it. Now I want to take one like that.

You asked about our week...
It was busy but peaceful. (things are not often peaceful in our home)
So I'm very thankful!

I love lavender too, Willow. I think it was too hot and humid here this summer, however, so mine did not grow well.

I liked your foggy photo!

Your photo in the fog is fantastic! How do you like my alliteration? Even the word verification begins with an "f" -- faskiess!

Wasn't the rain delightful? I enjoyed it too.

All that rain, I know you appreciated it.
My guess the Professor is 3rd from left! A fun photo.
