The Week of Thanksgiving

Giving Thanks.  This month of November and in particular this week of the US Thanksgiving holiday, everyone around me, on facebook, and in the news, is focusing on giving thanks.  One of the main reason I like to participate in Friday Fave Fives is that ALL. YEAR. LONG.  Every. Week. I engage by my own focus and by the encouragement of other people in giving thanks for whatever comes my way during that week.

1.  I love 'spur of the moment' outings.  My friend/neighbor had a free day and after hearing me rave about the Cyrus Cylinder at the Getty Villa, she decided she wanted to take a Monday afternoon field trip and invited me along.  I loved returning to reread and review the exhibit.  I learned more history and noticed more details.  I was able to revisit one of my favorite museums with one of my favorite people.  Win-win.

2.  Company coming provided the impetus to deep clean my house.  I love a clean and orderly home, but I'd let myself get in to a rut of just making do and the house was looking like it.  Knowing that Thanksgiving (and next month, Christmas) company will be arriving has given me the boost I needed.  I've made my cleaning list [two rooms a day] and I'm sticking to it.  I've even moved some furniture around.  It looks like a new place.

3.  Finishing a couple of knitting projects.  Two red and green hats for a baby for his first Christmas.  A sweater and hat(s) set for a relative's grandson.  After I mailed them off, I realized I hadn't taken photos of them.  Even so, it was good to get them off my 'Works in Progress' list.

4.  On Saturday I washed my car.  It rained on Wednesday.  Obviously, there is a connection.  Everyone in my area should thank me for our first rainfall--all .17 inches of it.  You're welcome.

5.  A full week off for Thanksgiving.  No more explanation necessary.

Expecting company gives me motivation to clean, too :). Have a blessed weekend and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Love your first paragraph about giving thanks all year long!

I know what you mean about company coming giving us an impetus to go beyond the everyday touch-ups with the house.

Neat that you got to revisit a nice exhibit with a friend, and get some knitting projects finished!

Had to smile at #4. :-)

Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!

I am so glad you had the opportunity to revisit the area with your friend/neighbor!

I've done some of that "deeper cleaning" myself over the last month or so. It feels good to have that accomplished, but there will be more left to do after Christmas. :)

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Willow.

Oh boy...enjoy your whole week off. Deep clean? I'm a bit behind around here. Company is always great motivation for me getting things done. The Getty Villa again...nice.

Haha for the rain. Roger calls it God's carwash :)

There's nothing like company to get you going with cleaning. I have a weekly Women's Bible Study and I held it at my house for that reason - among others :)

Glad you had the spur of the moment outing - they're so fun.

Happy weekend Willow!

My daughter is convinced that rainfall is dependent on her washing her car in our area! You and she must have a lot in common.

I love a deep cleaned house, too. Too bad I don't have one ...

Thanks for making me laugh! Every time Craig washes the car, it seems to rain here too! I am in the same place with my cleaning-- I didn't even realize how bad it was until I imagined what my company would think. I'm a neat freak but sometimes there are more pressing things to do. I've been thinking about you a lot lately and how you do these posts every week. I am feeling like I should start this too. I always pray with my kids every night and verbalize my gratitude, but sometimes I'm so sleepy and I want to spend more thinking about it. I'm trying to be more positive in my life. Well I hope you're having a great weekend! xo

I had to smile at your rain dance and the 0.17" that fell. Roomie and I had contemplated washing our vehicles. Well, you know what happened: rain and a totaled car. Glad we didn't waste our time!

I know just what you mean about having company over. It's often just the nudge (with a deadline!) needed to get things done.

I'm hoping you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Looks like you have some goals set aside keeping your orderly? I love order too...but company keeps me motivated. You asked where I got those bear photos? We went to the top of Grouse Mountain and they have a bear park up their and somehow I was there at the right moment. They made me smile too.

Happy Thanksgiving , dear Willow!
Warm greetings to you and yours.
Yes to all your faves - but especially the clean house bit.
How having people oner gets one going to clean things up!
