Here it is, the First Friday of 2018.
Welcome to Friday Fave Fives!
I'm reporting in from a very COLD place where there is SNOW.
I am still visiting family, and it's COLD! Being in this frigid weather, I am reminded to be thankful for things we often simply take for granted like:
1. Hot drinks. Sadly, my daughter's electric tea kettle died. But, we were able to simply drive to the store and purchase another one. Making a mug of tea is easy. And helps keep me warm.
2. Electric blankets. Who knew?
3. Hmmm, electricity. To keep those appliances and blankets working. Piped right into the house. Twenty-four hours a day. Every day.
4. Extra time with The (Not So) New Boy. He has had late starts at school and now today school was cancelled due to 'weather' which I think means the COLD. We braved the low temperatures one day and took a walk. He decided he was my protector, using snowballs and icicles for defense.
5. Warm clothes. Wool socks. Extra layers of clothes. Boots. I'm thankful I have these!
To all of you who live in this kind of weather all winter, you have my respect!

It sounds like an adventure, being in all that snow. I am a bit envious, as we haven't had nearly enough this year. At least not yet! Stay warm. I'm thankful for 24 hour electricity, too!
So, it's good to know what this area can deliver and not have big surprises. It's always fun if your electricity stays on and you don't have to drive out in it! Enjoy your time. That boy is definitely not new any more! What a nice looking young guy!
Oh my is it ever cold here!! I use the gas stove to heat my kettle. One less thing on my counter.
Hahaha we are so used to it and remember we CHOOSE to live here because i cannot imagine living not near my beloved mountains. And honestly, here in eastern NY the deep cold usually only lasts a week or so at a time, and it IS winter. It's supposed to be cold so we appreciate those hot summer days more!😜
Yay for hot drinks, wool sweaters, fleece headbands, etc.
Your grandson is a good looking young man!!! Love that you took a walk! I did too, on my treadmill!! Ha!!
Happy weekend!
Crazy weather this year with you guys getting snow. I loved your list! Truly what the FFF is about, finding blessings in the midst of unexpected circumstances that many or may not be viewed as "good". Loved the pics of your grandson having fun with the snow too! Stay warm
I hear you!! Warm running water. I invariably find myself being so grateful for warm running water - not everyone has it, and it makes such a difference when it's really really cold. Stay warm and bundled up! And happy new year :)
We're having the longest cold snap we've had here since we moved here. No snow, but temps in the single digits at night. My one consolation is that hard freezes kill off bugs. :-) But I really don't think I could live any farther north. I am grateful for some of the same things this week, like central heat, warm drinks, and throw blankets. Glad you were able to get out with your grandson a bit!
I grew up in the Chicago area so it was normal for me to walk to school in knee deep snow--long before girls could wear pants to class!!
Here in rural New Zealand, our water supply is rainwater so you learn to appreciate little things like the weather.
Great post!
I could not live somewhere that has long spells of cold and snow during winter and I like the way you reminded us of simple things that we can easily take for granted until they're missing. Happy New Year.
Electricity is a blessing we often take for granted, just being warm, or cool depending of course makes our lives much nicer. Have a wonderful visit.
Toto, we're not in California anymore. Keep drinking your hot tea and wearing your layers. Soon enough you'll be back in your mild climate. Enjoy your family! Happy New Year! xo
