1. First things first. I seldom mention anything medical here on Willow's Cottage blog. But I decided to write about a recent surgery I had because it is truly a blessing. Last week, I had a cataract surgery on one of my eyes, and this next week I will be having the same surgery on my other eye. All has gone very well, according to my doctors. I have remembered to put in ALL THE EYE DROPS so far, sometimes as many as eight during a day. I am thankful that the surgery has been so successful, that I have recovered quickly, and that my eyesight is already improved.
2. There are all kinds of restrictions on activities and movements after eye surgery. I may not lift heavy things. I may not lean over (for a month!). I am thankful for a very kind and patient husband who comes over and picks up that thing I dropped and can't get. I am getting lots of 'lower body exercises' by doing squats to NOT lean over but get down to pick stuff up. I am also thankful that I have very dexterous feet. Did you know that you can use your toes to grab things like towels, shirts and even knitting needles from the floor? I'm thankful I'm agile enough to then move my leg up (think yoga poses) and catch what I've gotten with my toes.
3. My sister-in-law loaned me her Kindle to read two books that our local library didn't have in paper form. She was able to check them out digitally so I could read those two books in a series of murder mysteries. I'm thankful for a great and thoughtful sister-in-law (The Professor's sister).
4. Remember BYOD? That's Bring Your Own Dinner. We have long long time close friends who we love to get together with. But we all got tired of 'what shall we eat/cook?', so we choose our own food from a restaurant, get it 'to go' (that's American for take away) and meet up at one of our houses. No cooking, minimal clean up. We did BYOD this week with our friends and the four of us chatted for HOURS. I'm thankful that God brought this friend to me when I was eighteen and she was nineteen and that we have remained friends all these years (The
5. In April, a friend picked up some nasturtium seeds from the ground under a beautiful plant. She gave me two of them and I planted them in a pot. One sprouted and now I have this amazing and unusual flower. I'm thankful for the beauty God provides every day in my garden!
How was your week? What are you thankful for?

I’m so thankful the surgery went well. I wonder if it will make colors brighter - I remember Mom thinking some of the buildings had been newly painted! Such a blessed friendship! Love, Mary
Lovely flower!!! And I love the idea of BYOD. --Ann
LOVE LOVE LOVE the idea of BYOD!!! Fun!!
Love that pretty flower and praise God your eye surgery went well and that you have flexible toes! 🤣
Happy weekend!
I broke my shoulder a month ago. I am just now getting back into some "regular" activities. I've also had to be creative about picking up things I've dropped. It hurt too much to bend over and at first, I didn't feel stable enough to bend over. Good ole toes to the rescue! It is amazing to discover how many things I drop in a day.
So glad the cataract surgery went well this week. Praying for the same success next week.
Hurray for helpful people.
Also hurray that you were able to find a way to get those two books. What murder mystery is it? I've read a lot this month. But I haven't been able to hold a physical book or even my Kindle. But I have been able to hold my phone and use it as an e-reader.
Have a great week.
Wonderful surgery results! My dad had surgery on both eyes, too, a few months ago. It was REALLY hard to keep him abiding by all the restrictions. May you see many a luscious nasturtium!
I am trying very hard to be thankful for everything! Even things that don't seem great like traffic and crazy drivers. Love your post and hope your second surgery goes just like the first.
I' so glad your surgery went well! That would be so hard to remember not to lean over. It's good you have such a good helper. :-) What fun catching up with an old friend. Beautiful nasturtium.
Glad your surgeries went well. I'm having eye surgery on August 5th which the side effect from it might include the need to have cataract surgery 6 months later. Time will tell. So blueberry lady is now strawberry lady? Same land? Those bring your own food get togethers sound great! Happy almost Sunday to you!
So glad the first surgery went well and I hope all goes well with the next one. Yes it's amazing what you can grab with feet although I'm not sure I'd be as agile as you sound but then I've never done yoga! Your BYOD with friends sounds like a great idea.
What a great idea to bring your own dinner! Now that we live in our old home town again we might use that idea to catch up with old friend. I love nasturtiums! So pretty.
Glad you surgery went well and you are recovering nicely and getting used to all those "rules". Yikes I think I would totally forget the bending over one. Praying the surgery for the other eye also goes well. So nice you were able to get together with your life long friend and what a great idea the BYOD is. I love nasturtiums. Did you know the leaves are edible (flowers and young leaves)?
