Happy New Year! 2026 is here! This past week did not happen as intended, but even in the midst of some difficulties, I have found many blessings. It is so important to pay attention to the positive events in life because the more you focus on the blessings, the more you realize just how blessed you are. That's why I join Susanne's Friday Fave Fives every week. (Want to know more about FFF? Here's the LINK.)
1. The day after we celebrated our Christmas on the 26th, Nurse Girl was informed that her daughter in California was in the hospital. Certainly that wasn't the fave. BUT. She was able to take a few days off from work and fly out to CA that evening. I am thankful I was able to travel with her. The flights were easy to book. There were no delays. Travel was uneventful. Car rental was smooth. Hotel was lovely.
2. We were able to visit Granddaughter and encourage her as much as possible. (No worries. She has been discharged.) I am thankful we could be with her and spend even a few hours with her.
3. As long as we were in the Los Angeles area, where we used to live, we chose a couple of our favorite places to eat. One local friend was able to drive up to have breakfast and coffee with us. That was a huge blessing.
4. There is nothing like a visit to the beach to help us de-stress. For both of us, the beach is our happy place. One of her friends drove up from San Diego and spent a couple of hours with us. I know that was so very comforting to Nurse Girl.
5. Flight home... again, it was smooth 'sailing'. No missed flights. Easy transfers. Lots of reading and knitting time.
Even though the visit to Los Angeles was unexpected, we were able to find lots of blessings in the midst of the difficulties. And for that we are thankful. But, I'm glad to be home again. And ready to begin a new year.
PS: come back soon for LOADS of photos from Los Angeles beaches!

Praise God your granddaughter is ok and was discharged and you had no flight issues!!
how lovely to walk the beaches you used to go to and that you love so much.
It must have been extra special to have the friend join you for breakfast and coffee and the beach walk. God is so good!! His peace reigns even when we are in the midst of trials. I'm currently in Plymouth Co heading to Boston Tavern in a couple of hours for dinner with my brother in law and his wife who is more a friend to me than just a sister in law. Dave and I will spend tomorrow with his mom at his childhood home. She'll be 91 come March and still lives alone d oing well with just a helper woman who comes in every evening to do chores, etc.
oops forgot to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Oh goodness that's not news you want to get. Glad you and your daughter could make the journey and your Granddaughter is now home. Nice that you were able to make the most of the visit with the beach and catching up with old friends. Happy New Year.
I’m glad a difficult situation turned out to have a lot of positive experiences for you. The ease of travel is almost miraculous at this time of year . And to visit the beach and see old friends, both are so good for the soul. Happy New Year, Linda.
Hi Willow, so glad things turned out well for your granddaughter and that you could be there with her. That is a good friend that would drive 3 hours to visit. Looks like you went while there was no rain which is good. Glad the flights went well. Happy New Year!
Oh, I’m so glad you could see and encourage your granddaughter, and walk a beach! You and the nurse look great. Mary

I'm so happy to hear that your granddaughter was discharged and I hope she is healthy and healing. What a blessing to have such smooth travels and get to see some old friends and places as well.
Oh my! So thankful all the details seemed smooth from your travel to taking advantage of the time to visit friends. I'm sure you had an army of praying family and friends. May all go well for your daughter and granddaughter!
Oh my! I guess that was an unexpected trip, but it turned out to be a blessing for all of you I am certain. How wonderful you were able to do that on the spur of the moment and that everything went so smoothly! That's a huge blessing! Praise God!! Happy New Year to all of you, and I hope your granddaughter will continue to heal and prosper in good health.
