March Begins With Small Things

You know how some weeks are just quieter than others?  On the positive side, I probably needed a quiet week after my very exciting week in San Diego.  Quiet weeks can be good.

When your week is not so busy,

1. you can attend a cast party with your husband.  The Professor is moonlighting as the Technical Director of the university's performing arts department's spring production.  I've met most of the upper classmen/women who have acted in plays other years so it was fun to hang out with them for a few hours.

2. you can relax and read in the evenings while your husband is attending rehearsals.  Gallons of Trader Joe's Bedtime Tea have been consumed.

3. you can knit and knit and knit.

4.  you can begin to dream about this year's garden.  Kale.  Heirloom lettuces.  More tomatoes.  More onions.  Lots more parsley.

5.  you can vacuum the house and clean the bedroom closets without disturbing anyone else because no one else is in the house.

These were small things, most likely insignificant in the greater scheme of life's dramas, but they gave pleasure and joy to me.

What small things brought a smile to you this week?

You can share them here or post at Susanne's blog Living to Tell the Story for Friday's Fave Five.

Being "cozy" is often a conscious effort. You have it down to a science, I'd say. It sounds like you've had a wonderful week. I love dreaming about my garden too. I have some heirloom lettuce planted already, but I mostly I'm just planning.

It sounds like a great week! Sometimes I love the quiet recharging moments, and reorganizing, too. I also love a good cast party! I hope the play went well. I loved being in drama club!

You have found joy and contentment in a week that would have made another person wild with boredom. I am right beside you, appreciating the small things. Yay Willow!!

I love the seemingly small things to be grateful for. They are some of the things that make everyday life lovely!

Quiet weeks definitely are good for me too. So glad you had a relaxing week doing things you enjoy—reading, knitting, dreaming about gardens. It’s the little things that make up a life. A little thing I’ve enjoyed this week is sitting outside on the swing and watching the ducks.

The bedtime tea sounds nice. And dreaming about a garden is just endlessly charming. Kale! how yummy (had it for dinner two nights ago) I love the sound of "heirloom lettuces." What a lovely week you have.

sounds absolutely lovely, Willow.

Sounds like you've had a peaceful week at your end. That is sometimes also valued, even though the professor is having some new opportunities. That's what keeps you all young.

Your week sounds perfectly lovely! I had hoped for such a week, but found myself out running errands and taking care of things. Sigh.

Sounds like a nice change of pace. Quiet, yet productive. (peacefully productive?)

You asked what brought a smile this week.

One quiet evening last week I went to bed early with a box of girl scout thin mints and listened to an R.C. Sproul cd (that I never had found time to hear). It was great.

I LOVE quiet weeks! I prefer those with only the occasional busy ones, but I have to just take them as they come. Sounds like a great week!

A VERY good week, Willow! :o) I've been on a semi-digital sabbatical this past week doing some much needed spring cleaning around the house, and we're gearing up for some sprucing up of our kitchen. It's Sunday though, so making it sweet & restful. Happy Days, my friend ((HUGS))

Hi Willow!
Loved all the little things you do when you have an evening to yourself.....something I rarely have and rather enjoy.

My small things include hanging out with grandson Henry,
being home safe after a super trip
playing with the dog
yes........and knitting too

I would replace 5 with more of 2 nd 3. Bliss would then be mine.

A quirt house and time alone can be very productive! I am also dreaming about my little summer garden :)

Not small things - rather simple pleasures that lend large quantities of serenity to our days. :-) Sounds like a perfect start to the month.

Ah... I love a nice quiet week like that. And sometimes they're so much better because they come after a busy time! We've had some lovely evenings this week ourselves, with time to sit on the couch and talk after the girls have gone to bed. That makes me happy :)

(P.S. The pattern that I used shows up variously across the state, but the shape is very Owens Valley - related groups of people. I'll try to post a bit more detail on that this weekend with some pictures of caps.)

Sounds like a very enjoyable week! I admire actors ~ being able to memorize all those lines is quite daunting I suspect.

When I'm not under work stress I love to bake. I always knit because I can do that in the evenings when work is done but baking is a leisurely activity I enjoy in the mornings.

PS Love the new banner photo on your blog!

The emails that are reaching us from Japn, from friends who are safe from the earthquake - that brought smiles & joy!
