A new week means new blessings, new Fave Fives for Friday.
1. A new bed
After way too many years, we finally decided enough was enough. We bought a new mattress.
2. A new computer
The advantage to being married to a computer science professor is that you always get the best computer, exactly what you want and need, for the best price. My poor old computer was well past due for an upgrade.
3. A new restaurant
Mary's Secret Garden
Vegan Restaurant
Ventura
We sat on the sidewalk patio and enjoyed the sunshine and lemon water while we waited for our meal.
Actually, we ate pad thai, but we were so hungry that I didn't take a photo in time.
4. New books
Well, not new-new. But new to me. After lunch, we stopped by two used bookstores and I found two more Newbery Award books.
Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham (1956)
The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley (1986)
Half the fun of owning the Newbery Award winner books is the thrill of the hunt in the used bookstores. The other half is, of course, actually reading the books, which I will do this summer.
Farewell to Spring Clarkia
A California native blooming in my native garden
Anything new in your world this week?

Wow, I can't believe you have clarkias this late in the season. Hurray for good new things this week. What a coincidence -- I'm rereading Robin McKinley's retelling of Beauty and the Beast.
It sounds like you had a very good week, Willow! I love pad thai. Is your husband a fan of an Apple or Mac? My husband gave e a new computer for my upcoming birthday but we haven't had time to transfer files and programs from my present computer to it as yet
Do you still hand knit bunnies? My grandson showed me the bunny I bought from you for him when he was born four years ago, and I realized two other grandchildren did not get one!
Yay for needs beds, computers, restaurants, and flowers.
Sounds like you had a FABULOUS week.
oops....I meant to say "NEW".
That is a very beautiful flower! I had to chuckle because Caroline has been eating a lot of Pad Thai lately! Even in her packed lunch at school. Enjoy your new bed and new computer... 2 big expensive things but much needed! (We could use a new bed too!) Have a happy weekend!
Hurray for finding 2 books to add to your Newbery collection, Willow. How many books are there and how many do you have?
A new computer is fun especially if someone in the family knows how to set it up. Did you get any new features?
Enjoy your summer reading and knitting.
A new bed is nice. We've had that experience of everything and everyone rolling to the middle because of a sagging mattress - so refreshing to get a new one.
How neat to get have access to just the right computer at the best price!
I had never seen or heard of clarkias before - they're lovely.
I'm so excited that you bought The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley - it's one of my favourites - it's a prequel to The Blue Sword. Both are awesome! Best female protagonist ever! Perfect summer reading. I'm in danger of over-praising, something every librarian knows NOT to do, but I can't help it :) Let me know how you like it.
Gorgeous flower!
and yay for the new mattress and computer!
I have a lifelong goal to read all the Newberys and honor books. I've never read either of your finds.
Your photos are lovely!
Pretty little flower!
It's amazing what a new mattress can do for one's sleep! Sounds like you've had two great purchases this week with the computer thrown in there. And the books! Can't for get the most important thing, the books! :v)
A new book is fun and so is a new computer! Your flower is similar to one we have seen in Death Valley. Its petals are paper like and the color so vivid!
Yes, new shoots coming up in the garden! It didn't take long!
Happy sleeping!
Hi, Willow. I think this is my first time visiting your blog.
My hubby and I enjoy browsing used bookstores. You never know what treasures may turn up.
How nice for you to get a new bed! Very essential for a good night's sleep. :)
Oh my back is relating to your new mattress! The flower is lovely! Yippee for treasure hunting in used bookstores!
LOTS of good last week for you, Willow! Beautiful images. :o) New for me these days is loving iced coffee. I'm such a tea person, so it's a crazy thing... LOL! Happy Summer Days ((HUGS))
