End of October

I'm a bit late posting Friday Fave Fives.  Things are a bit tense and wary because of all the concerns about fires here in Southern California.  We are fine and there are no fires within fifteen miles from us.  But fire weather still keeps us on edge.

1.  First, I have to say I am thankful for all the firefighters who are out fighting the various fires that are burning throughout California.  With a large fire burning not far from where The Professor's brother lives and another one near our niece and nephew, and a third burning along the beach just up the coast in our county, we know the firemen and first responders are working round the clock to keep us safe.

2.  And yes, it really has been as hot and windy as the news  says.  I am very very thankful that we have air conditioning.

3.  World's Best Neighbor took the train to San Diego and then rode it back at the end of the week.  I'm her Uber driver.  It's fun to get those texts saying, "I'm in LA."  "Just passing Glendale."  I picked her up and after a community meeting we needed to attend, we grabbed The Professor and ended up at a new to us Chinese restaurant.  Yum!  And I'm glad to have her back home.

4.  I haven't been writing about my knitting projects much.  Mostly, they're boring projects. There's really nothing exciting about pillow covers.  But it gives me joy to just knit.

5.  I am thankful for the BEST eye surgeon.  I needed some (not unusual) follow up work on my cataract surgeries.  This weekend, I'll be resting my eyes.  But my vision is doing just fine and I am very thankful for that.

I hope you continue to stay safe from there wild fires. They are so terrible. Over here in New England I can’t imagine living with such devastation. They seem to be quite common now though. It’s lovely to have a good friend for a neighbor.

I'm glad the fires aren't affecting you--I hope and pray they don't. I'm glad, too, for the brave souls who fight such battles for others. I'm happy your eye surgery follow-up went well. Yay for good neighbors!

First responders are heroes!! very thankful for them! How awful to have those fires again out there!! I can't imagine it.

How wonderful that you get to help out your neighbor....i'm thankful for when I'm friends with neighbors.

Praise the Lord your eye surgery went well as well as the follow up care.

I hope you have a good weekend!

Aren’t we thankful for good eye doctors. John had to have further treatment when he had his cataract surgery as well. I’ve been watching the fires and hoping they wouldn’t come too close to your area. One looks pretty close to TMU. I rather imagine that “the world’s best neighbor” probably considers you the same. So glad you personally are safe from the fires. It is hard when left ones and friends are potentially in danger. And I also say hooray for first responders. We are having fires up in Northern California, as you probably know. But aside from the impact of the smoke, in my area we are not in danger of the flames.
So glad your eyes got the adjustment they needed. I hope you rested well over the weekend.
How fun to be able to get some good Chinese food the world’s best neighbor after doing your Uber job.
Having a hobby that brings joy is such a gift.

Just read about the fire near Getty. Yikes. Glad the fires aren't coming down your hill. Hope your eye continues to heal nicely.

A week late commenting and I hope you and your family are all safe and sound. The fires are scary to see on the news, I can't even imagine what it's like to be so close to them. Glad your eyes are doing well after the surgery.
