Late May

Hello!  It's Friday!  Time for Willow's Week at Friday Fave Fives (hosted by Susanne at Living to Tell the Story).  How was your week?  Mine was just the same old, same old.  Hanging around the house.  Staying safe.  Taking walks.  Being thankful for the small things.

1.  I've been doing a bit of sketching and really working at improving my skills.  I love the satisfaction of finishing  a sketch.  (The photo is a bit blurry, sorry.)

2.  This week, I received an email from the mother of a former student, thanking me for the input I had in her daughter's life.  Oh how my teacher heart glowed.  This young woman is surging forward in her writing!

3.  Ya'll doing Zoom and Skype sessions?  I know that, for me, sometimes I am 'zoomed-out'.  But I am thankful that during this time we have the option of 'seeing' people and 'spending time' with them.  I know it's not the same as really face to face interaction, but it's better than nothing.

4.  We woke up Monday morning to RAIN.   I managed to catch a few photos of raindrops on my flowers.  And the rain didn't bother the monarch caterpillar at all.  They just kept on chewing on the milkweed.  I do love my garden.

5.  It's still jacaranda tree time.  Normally, when we drive down the streets of our city, I don't notice the trees except that they're there and provide green and shade.  But during Jacaranda Season, oh my!  Those purple blossoms just celebrate spring!  Here are some photos of jacaranda trees in various spots around town.  [please note:  BEFORE deciding to plant a jacaranda tree, understand that there is no middle ground.  They're beautiful. BUT, they're messy. See bottom photo.]

Yeah, they're really messy.

I hope you had a good week and are staying well.

It’s so nice of your student’s mother to reach out and thank you. Teacher’s don’t get recognized enough for all they do. Wow! That tree is so beautiful. We don’t have anything like that here.

I love the sketch! What a wonderful email. I've only used Zoom for church and enjoy it. But my husband uses it for work as well. We tried it with my oldest son instead of FaceTime one night, and it was nice that anyone in the room could chime in without having to pass the phone around. We're talking about trying to play a game with the whole family that way. :-) Yay for rain there! The jacarandas are beautiful. We enjoy the dogwoods and redbuds here in the spring.

The first time I saw Jacarandas was in Australia. They are trees of beauty. Sadly they dont grow here, as far as I know.

Your sketch is so pretty and cheerful! It would be pretty framed in a kitchen or on a notecard. How thoughtful of your student's mother to write to you. There are teachers in my life that I regret not reaching out to later on. One was my English teacher, and to this day I can hear her voice when I get stuck on a grammar issue! I've been zooming with my book club and also with our kids on birthdays and holidays. They are all over the country, so it is rare to have them all together even when things are 'normal.' I love just tuning them all in and then listening to their chatter. Warms this mom's heart!

Oh how nice to be appreciated by a student - and made aware of it! Your sketch is lovely as are the trees but yes I agree - messy! Enjoy the rest of the weekend and keep well.

Hi - letters and emails of appreciation from students and parents are just the b est. I love your sketches. I remember those trees from our time of living in California and how they are lovely, yet messy. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend. :-)

How encouraging to get that kind of email! Woohoo for some rain. Unfortunately zoom is a little frustrating with our broadband in the country. Happy Memorial Day Weekend to you.

I love letters from parents/students. So very special!
I'm pretty much all zoomed out. Our preK agency has actually switched to Google Meets as it is much better quality. But we are in phase 1 now and almost to phase 2 here in upper NY ( not NYC) so we can see people again face to face at a distance and with masks on in crowded stores. We are allowed to gather in groups up to 10 people. Thank the Lord!!!!

I love your trees. They are messy like my cherry blossom trees!!

I hope you have a great week and hopemyour area can open up a bit soon.

I too appreciate to be able to see son and grandson on Whatsapp or Skype I think that's a great invention, and as you say, at least you see people you are talking too so it's better then talking to the wall !How nice from this mother to call and thank you ! My teachers were completely different in the 50th real dragons ! but I have to say we were 80 in one class ! The whole city was distroyed and of course the schools too.
