Is It Autumn Yet?

It's almost Fall!  Two more days!  Are you ready for the weather to moderate and the leaves to change colors?  I am!  So many things about autumn make me happy.  Some of them made me happy this week (but not the still very hot weather).  I am sharing them as my Friday Fave Fives, my five blessings from this week. (follow the link to join us!)

1.  The flowers from my garden are all autumn colored.  I cut some and placed them in vases on my mantel where they made me smile every time I saw them.

2.  One evening after the weather cooled a bit, we walked along the paved paths by a local creek.  The heron is my favorite bird, and there was one playing bodyguard to a flock of ducks which were swimming around in the water.

3.  I finished two afghans this week.  Here is one of them-- made from leftover sock yarn.  Younger Daughter saw me knitting and claimed it.  She loves all. the. colors.

4.  I received a letter in the mail last week.  Enclosed were two packets of hollyhock seeds.  Oh my!  I am so excited for next spring when I can plant them.  Thank you, MBP!  The seeds are just a symbol of our deep and long friendship.

5.  Earlier this week, I drove out to a friend's farm to harvest some goldenrod plants.  And besides getting the plants, I had a great time chatting with my friend.  Here's hoping the plants survive all this hot weather in their new location.

So, those are my Friday Fave Fives for this week as we are moving into Autumn.  I hope you have had a good week, too.

Hi Willow. those flowers are so pretty! I have heard of Goldenrod, but not see it. We had cooler weather this week, but it will be warming up again. Have a great weekend!

I love all the bright colours in your afghan as well. We are chilly over here in Massachusetts and the maples are already changing. It seems a little early to me but what do I know? It's Kara from a spirit of simplicity. I seem to be having quite a bit of trouble commenting.

I absolutely love those blankets. You've inspired me to do something similar with all my scrap yarns. The fall flowers are beautiful. I have a couple of fake fall flower bouquets in my house and love them too. Thanks for the beauty and for the inspiration you've given me. Hope you have a great day.

I find the roving colors in your heading so cheerful. It’s fun to see what it will change to every few weeks.
Seeds? Yes, dear Friend, and I have calendula from you (from two years ago) happily blooming in my garden. I planted them late, so they weren’t in bloom yet when you were here. Mary

What a neat thing to do with bits of leftover yarn. I love that your daughter claimed it already. Your flowers do look so fallish. How fun to receive an actual letter, with seeds as a bonus. I hope your goldenrods do well.

Love your fall flowers! So beautiful and perfect for the season. And that colorful afghan is gorgeous! No wonder your granddaughter claimed it! I never heard of harvesting goldenrod plants before. They grow wild along the roads here, and I guess I never thought of wanting to transplant them, but they are beautiful...unless you are allergic. Although I think it's really ragweed that people are allergic to...and they mistake it for goldenrod. At least that's what I've heard. I love hollyhocks, and would love to grow some. They are so pretty. But I'm not much of a gardener, so I think I will just enjoy seeing yours when they grow and bloom and you share pictures with us! Happy Autumn!!!

LOVE the flowers in the autumnal colors!
GORGEOUS afghan!
We have a lot of goldenrod along the main road here in my neighborhood. I didn't know you could transplant them! I love Autumn and here in eastern NY the mornings and evenings are beginnign to be cooler although the days are stil in the high 70s and low 80s. I hear that might change this week and we are hoping for a couple days of rain as we need it!! it's been a very dry, hot summer here.

Oh, those saturated oranges and yellows are perfect for celebrating autumn. And I love that your not-socks-but-afghan makes you wonder where those socks are now and what adventure they're on :-)

Hi Willow. Your flowers are so pretty! I am ready for Fall. I'm not a fan of the shorter days, but I do enjoy all the other things that come along with Fall. Your afghan is beautiful! The colors are gorgeous. I love receiving notes/cards in the mail, but I rarely do. It seems as if everyone wants to text a message instead of handwriting a note. I still write thank you notes and send cards to friends now and then. I love pretty stationary and note cards and have a whole drawer full. And how thoughtful of your friend to send a packet of seeds! Have a great week.

Love all the plant excitement in the post. How sweet of your friend to plant the hollyhock seeds. We used to have them all along the side of the first house we rented. Love the autumn colored flowers. And that afghan is gorgeous.
