Friday Fave Five

Friday Fave Fives

1. A writing class. I attended a class designed to teach writing to students. Two years ago, I took the class for the first time, and the two part class this week is a review. Institute for Excellence in Writing.

2. Which brings me to Fave #2. The bad news? Right off the newspaper's front page-- CA budget crisis slashes education jobs. Including mine. The good news! I am privileged to take my teaching and tutoring experience and recent writing knowledge and put it to work to help a dear friend (the writing teacher) increase her class load in homeschools and charter schools in the area!

3. Fun trip to the county fair. That's where I will be while you are reading this on Friday. Walking around with The Professor. Eating greasy food. Watching the people. Gazing at photography and knitting.

4. Library books. I love the serendipity of cruising the bookshelves and discovering a new volume or unknown (to me) author. Oh. And library book holds!

5. My camera. I still really really love it! My current favorite photo.

Peace, Los Angeles

Wow, I'm glad you have a good news to overshadow the bad news!

God directs our steps and isn't it cool that He had already prepared you?

Have fun at the fair - love that "fair" food!

I also love your skyscraper picture!

So pleased that you are able to use your skills in such a way -- a blessing indeed! And I'm definitely with you on holds (and transfers if the book you want isn't in your branch). Hope you enjoy your fair day :-)

Great shot. I recognized it from your previous blog and commented..
So good to see you using your education to help in another area, rather than feeling slashed...
We just gotta keep picking up the pieces and moving ahead.

There is so much to be thankful for and you recognize them!!
Teaching and learning go on for a lifetime! Great shot of LA! The bird sets the picture off!!

I'm so glad that the bad news is actually turning into good news!!

And I love the library too...for the very same reasons you mention, Willow.

I love how you caught that bird in the photo of the sky scrapers! It gives such an interesting perspective to the cityscape!

So I guess I'm going to miss the fair again. Hope you see some fun stuff and eat yourself silly...
The bird with the skyscrapers really is cool...

It's been ages since I attended a writing class. It's great that your knowledge and experience helps your dear friend. The county fair sounds very fairytalish to me (I imagine Charlotte's web and those drawings I saw and read about in books when I was little) And library! I love that too. My gradschool thesis was delayed for another year because aside from mixing the writing with frequent overseas trips, I spent hours, days and weeks in the library leisure reading, and forgot the time :-)

Enjoy your weekend.

I'm so sorry for the job loss -- but you have a great perspective, and I'm glad you're getting some writing classes. I'd love to do that some time.

I haven't just perused library shelves in some time, but this is reminding me how fun it is.

Love the bird in flight in the photo of buildings.

Your new adventure sounds very exciting!

The fair is here next week. I haven't gone since I was little.

Hope you had fun at the fair. The photo of LA looks great. I'm sorry to hear that they cut your job but I'm happy for you that you were able to find something quickly. Good for you and your friend.

I pray that your beautiful words of a true love without fear come true. Somehow friend, I know I can love without fear but am not sure that he exists on our plane :)

I admire your positive and refreshing approach to all that has happened in the week. I hope you had a peaceful time with your love at the fair and everywhere else, xx

So sorry about your job -but lucky you can parlay your skills into something else worthwhile.
Teaching writing was my delight for many years and I may well
go back to it.
I'm sure you will be wonderfully good at it.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your job, but very glad that there's something waiting in the wings! Believe me, I know about this budget crisis and its impact on all of us in education; it's breaking my heart to see everything that's being cut...

So sorry to read that you have lost your job Willow. Glad you have other options though.

Enjoyed all the downtown LA pics.

Have posted on tea in the garden yesterday and one of the pots contained your Earl Grey tea. It was very nice and I think more delicate than our usual Earl Grey.

I really enjoy the library too! Someone at work was making fun of me the other day because I had to run over and pick up my holds. Saved myself hundreds of dollars borrowing rather than buying!

I'm glad you have an alternative job Willow. So sorry your prior school lost you!

My daughter got her Masters in Education and her licence and there are no jobs presently in NYC. She is lucky she still is working in her present job in business until the situation improves.

I love your positive attitude. Libraries and my camera are two of my favorite things also! I love that picture - the bird flying near the building really adds much to the picture. Hope all is well - take care.
