In the afternoon of the day we went to Leigh-on-Sea, after a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant, Alan and Barbara took us to Two Tree Island in the Thames Estuary.
We walked along the trails and admired the flowers and watched the birds. We sat on the benches when we wanted a rest.
The summer flowers were blooming.
On the hill over on the mainland stands Hadleigh Castle.
At the end of our day, we were completely charmed by this area of Essex. All that was needed was a little refreshment to make the day perfect.

Every time I look at your pictures, it inspires me to review mine.
So many wonderful memories and the scenery is so captivating.
It's so good to be able to blog these trips and enjoy the pictures.
I'm reading Phillipa Gregory books right now, though a bit too colorful at times I am so enchanted by all the castles and the history of England. I can well imagine that seeing those areas would be amazing.
I agree with Marg, blogging has provided a whole new way to make our vacation memories last.
The Thames Estuary is charming and so different than imagined. Are the boats resting until the tide comes in?
I think I see some hot chocolate!!
Just lovely. What a wonderful day.
Ahh, it looks like the perfect outing! Food + Walking + water + castles....
What a charming place to visit, Willow. I felt like I needed that hot coffee after seeing those grey skies.
Those coffees look yummy! What a beautiful area.
Gorgeous!!! Please tell whoever took your photo that you'd rather not have foliage in front of your pretty face!!! I am going to have to plan on going there someday. I don't think I could come back, though, if I did!
St. Hubert's School of Cuisine? Or maybe the School of Cuisine is in St. Hubert? Anyway, I love that last shot, and I see you were able to get your coffee wherever you went!
I'm really enjoying your England posts...and I wish we were having that cool, cloudy weather about now! Is it as hot up your way as it is here?
very lovely!!
You're doing a good job of documenting your trip - much better than I :)
