A Thankful Month Days 13, 14 AND 15

While I've been enjoying my time in Los Angeles I've slipped through some days of not posting my Thankful Days. So here are THREE in ONE.

1. A couple of days of solitude. I am kitty sitting at a friend's house, knitting, reading, organizing photos.

2. I'm thankful for thought-provoking, well written books and my daughter who loaned these two books to me.

3. A beach walk. My personal name for this beach is Alfredo's Beach--after a little snack shack called Alfredo's.

I have that book "Three Cups of Tea" but haven't read it yet! It sounds so interesting! I watched "God Grew Tired of Us" about the Lost Boys from Sudan, last evening. You would really like that documentary!! The kids appreciated seeing it. I actually rode in a cab of one of them when I was in Pittsburgh two years ago! It's good to see the world from a completely different point of view!

I have heard good things about three cups of tea but to be honest, i couldn't keep reading after one particularly violent scene in the kite runner. if you've gotten that far, you'll probably know which i am talking about. :(

When you visit Santa Monica try and pop into the british shops (there are 2 across from each other) on 2nd Street and Santa Monica Blvd.

Thank you for reminding me that I have been meaning to order Three Cups of Tea - I'm going to do that this morning :)

BTW, you can find almond meal in Trader Joe's in the flour section.

I loved Three Cups of Tea in particular; my daughter read it, too, and I think that it really made her think about the things that she takes for granted (the larger political messages were probably lost on a ten-year-old). I hope you guys are staying safe and fire-free up there!

I haven't any books I'm in the middle of reading at the moment as I'm planning another cross stitch picture for a long serving friend at school who's leaving at Christmas. But I do have: "For Whom The Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway, "Pacific Vortex!" by Clive Cussler, "The Conquest" by Elizabeth Chadwick, "Night Probe" by Clive Cussler, "Nelsons Purse" by Martin Downer and finally "Three Weeks in Paris" by Barbara Bradford sitting on my bedside table Which I hope to read during the holidays. Your tea and brownies sounded delicious. Jane x

Three Cups of Tea is one of my husband's favorite books, and coincidentally my books club at school just chose it to read for December.

I could never read The Kite Runner again. It was so sad, but I wish more American would read it. I liked A Thousand Splendid Suns better because there seemed to be more hope at the end, but it was intense too.
