A Thankful Month Days 17 and 18

On Sunday, we passed the Good Year blimp in Long Beach. We were driving along the freeway and looked to the right and saw the blimp moored in its field. We realized that it wasn't going to be flying anywhere that day in the winds, flames and ashes.

We drove west and south to Palos Verdes Penninsula, hoping to get out of the smoke from the fires. The sky above the Pacific Ocean tried so hard to be blue, but mostly it was gray. We could see the top of Catalina Island in the distance but most of it was obscured by the smokey haze that had settled along the coast.

All the way back north to Ventura County along the coast road we looked out over gray water and a fiery orange sunset.

I am so thankful that we are back to the Southern California days of beach umbrellas

and surfers.

Rebecca is recording all our thankful posts on her blog.

Those are some great photos -- I must admit, though, that I'm looking forward to some non-SoCal days, with FOG!! :)

The picture of Catalina with the Bird of Paradise flower is stunning! Love it, mumsy!

Wishing you a few still days to beat the fires, then a few days of on-shore winds to clear the air. Thanks for the lovely drive.

The smokey air is just awful. I really feel for you. Our summers have been obscured two years in a row because of fires. That's why I'm thankful for this extended sunny weather this year. It somehow makes up for June. :)

Hi Willow....how are you doing?

Miss Eleanor Elizabeth Rabbit looks so cute in the willow tree! I never know where I will see her next! She may need a blog of her own one of these days, to talk about her amazing travels.

The fires must have been horrific for some. We have so much to be thankful for.

So I wonder where Chap. Dan will be off to next?

Most Abbeys were destroyed at that time.
